I can't check disk since that file is corrupt, and I can't restore since it won't allow a restore without check disk. I have used multiple cleaners (spybot, adaware, avt spyware cleaner, among others) and no improvement. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a trojan horse infection....Call a technician....they can fix it...will cost you though.

you can add files to menu by right clicking and pinning to menu.
if you can't restore you need to format.
wipe out all and reinstall.did you try to repair system?did you scan for virus viles.download [ avg ] virus sscanner free edition at avg.com.did you try recovery?go to computer on start menu
click on xd image and run recovery
