This question is really for people who have some knowledge of the bible. Of course NOT ALL conservatives are the same. I am talking about the genreal ideology.

Jesus was a liberal in his time. The right wing are very conservative and don't like change. But if Jesus didn't come and change things we would still be following the same principles.

they value tradition over everything. Even to the point where their beliefs clash. Rightists are known to oppose abortion but on the same end support the death penalty. They claim that an unborn baby is a human and shouldn't be killed, but on the same agenda isn't a person who has committed a crime still a human? What's up with the that?

Absolutely. They claim to have the inside track on a relationship with God, and they are most concerned about "getting America back to its Christian roots," as the Pharisees wanted Israel to take its rightful place as God's chosen nation. Their motives are political, not based on glorifying God.

And if Christ were to come as he did in those times, the first ones He would condemn would be the religious right, because they are promoting selfish agendas in order to gain wealth rather than glorifying God and getting people closer to His kingdom.

EDIT: Jesus was ABSOLUTELY a "liberal." He confronted the religious leaders of his day and shook them to the core. He didn't just fulfill the law...he SURPASSED it, showing that man cannot live up to the law, and that's why we needed
Him. He was the ONLY one that could fulfill the law and live up to it. That's why we need His righteousness to cover our own.

What's interesting is the timing of Jesus first time to live on earth. He came at a time when the religious leaders of the day finally decided they had it all figured out. They were going to make their religious nation and they were going
to be the cherry on top of ice cream sundae, because they were so good for God, that God had to see them as righteous, because they were leaders of their religious nation.

In a way. Many (or most) seem to be focused on the rules of the Bible and Old Testament philosophy (concentrating on gay marriage, abstinence only, pro-war, pro-Israel, rapture, yes i know that's new testament). This may have been Biblically justifiable using only the Old Testament (I don't think so. Just read the prophets; always screaming about social justice, etc.) and so by that scale the Pharisees saw themselves as the most righteous because they followed and enforced the Law. (Sounds like some right wingers I know)

What Jesus came to change was the idea that you are saved by following the Law. Following the rules will not save you. More Christians need to remember that and concentrate on what saves, not what condemns.

Because there are extremist on both ends of the political spectrum...and there are left wing Christians as well as right wing Christians (there differences being how they interpret "What would Jesus do")..I agree with your perspective relating the Christian Coalition of the Right to being similar to the Scribes and Pharisees of biblical days and when Jesus walked the earth.

The Scribes and Pharisees way of life was 'threatned' by Jesus....and they conspired with the Government to have him accused and punished by death. The Evangelicals of today feel 'threatned' and are using the Government in the same way to promote thier agenda.

No... not even close... In fact I can't even see why the comparison would be made.

Edit: Jesus was *not* liberal... not for his time or any other.. He came to fulfill the law... every "jot and tidle" The Pharisees had taken the law as given by God and added so much through interpretation that they made life miserable for the people.

Edit 2: The difference is that the baby is *innocent*.. what I find totally hard to comprehend is murdering babies and babying murders.

I don't know about Pharisees. But they are definitely hypocrites. I can't imagine you could call anyone that did not have sympathy and charity for the poor in their hearts a Christian, but the conservatives seem to have that attitude.

That's definitely un-Christian.
