I think it is my exhaust banging on the floor but i am not sure. Is there anything else that could cause the banging?

Loose exhaust system, depending on where your spare is located, it could be that...... or: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8avOiTUcD4Y

There's a heat shield between the exhaust and the floor that can come loose.

I bet your spare tire in your car may be loose. midsize and full car passenger cars have spare's located in the trunk. Your brakes don't touch the floor of your car. Your exhaust hangs from hooks under the car and you have to bottom the car pretty hard to make that thud.

Could also be caused by the shock absorbers. they are attached to the body with rubber pieces that when worn, will cause a banging noise.

If you tell us a little more about your vehicle we can answer your questions better. (make/model/year)
And are there any more symptoms? Is it just banging or does the car pull to one way?

id personally call it a thudding noise, but if its only when your slowing down/ stopping, brakes are likely the culprit.
