I'm an atheist, will that do?
Seeing as it's a commercial exploitation of a Christian overlay of a pagan mid-winter festival, it's not an obvious thing for me to revel in.
I don't even have a close family or children to build a "family" Christmas around. (and if that slides into competitive present giving, who wants it!?)
Over-hyped, over-long and over-pervasive might sum it up!
Even charity giving for Christmas can get tricky: last year I gave several flocks of goats, and now there are reports that Africa may be over-goated!
And lastly there's the tyranny of the majority... The expectation that not only will a dissenter not complain, they will look happy too, so as not to spoil it for others.
(follow that through, and we could end up with everyone hating it, no-one daring to say so, and everyone *looking* as though they enjoy it, for fear of offending all the others who so clearly appear to be enjoying it!)

Children die all over the world, what makes a difference if its x mas or not, it happens every day.. I don't know why people make a big deal about the holiday. Oh yeah that's right !Because its in everyone face and now they should care.. Its bs to me.Its a hypocrites holiday if you ask me. All around. I treat x mas like Thanksgiving its a time to cook a darn good meal.

Why should you force yourself to live a life without entertainment just because you were lucky enough to be born in a wealthy country rather than a third world country? It's sad, but true. I enjoy Christmas because I love giving to the people I love and seeing them happy. It is a great opportunity for my whole family to come together and celebrate a time of love and happiness. I will not live a life of misery just because there are others in this world who have no choice. I will take advantage of the things I was given and the things I have busted my *** for.

Christmas? Meh it's ok.. My mom is Christian and forced me to do everything! I give them gifts and they give me some(sometimes just one and it's something I hate like socks and they think it was a great gift for me) back but because I told my mom I'm atheist she started to hate me more and told me that "you just never seen religion before blah blah blah". Sorry I'm just rambling on but I'm fine with Christmas I like my birthday more. I agree with you on the charity things; Americans from my point of view are very materialistic that's why and kids these days are kind of being greedy with have stuff. I think this holiday just makes people more materialistic and not care about other stuff but themselves.

not athiests, but i totally agree with what you are saying it is so, so sick and it makes me sad that we are so obsessed with materilism. as a mom, it offends me that ppl try to get my kids to have theese so-called values.
even christians shouldn't be materialistic, that isn't the christian christmas meaning, it is the american multi-cultured melting pot version of the holiday.
