19yr son, given a breathalizer and detained..053% charges filed.Iwasn't notified. Is this legal? Legally, can a 19yr old be ordered to court without his parent being notified? 19 not old enough to drink, but old enough to go to court without parents knowing about it?

An 18 year old is an adult, even though he's not allowed to drink - the two are not legally connected.

The cops do not notify the parents of adults when they arrest them.

People who have reached the age of majority.....18 are considered adults. Some adults are not capable of taking care of themselves and have a legal caretaker of some fashion. Absent some legal reason an 18 year old cannot take care of themselves...they face the consequences of their actions on their own merits.

The good news here for parents of adults over 18 is that they are no longer legally responsible (unless the parent facilitates the criminal act) for the illegal acts of their children.

If the individual was under 18 at the time of the offense. Why should they have been notified? the individual knew the law, broke the law, and will pay the consequences of being MIP, Mom & Dad need never know what is their now adult child's business.

Nope, when the child reaches 18 he's legally and adult.

At 17, the child gains some anonymity too.

At 18 you can't expect his doctor to give you any information without your son's approval.

Forgot to add when I answered this question when you posted it before. Are you aware that he also needs to give permission for you to see his medical records? Another great thing about being an adult.
