Yes, most definitely. I have a 24 yr old nephew and he's diabetic. I allowed him to move in with my wife and I. I helped him get a job which he loved and he did well for almost a year (he'd never held a job for more than a month or so before that). When his employeer left the current position he followed but again only lasted about 2 months. He had a friend (6 yrs younger than him) visit and they didn't think they had enough time to run and have fun so he came up with several excuses and finally went home to be with his friend (this all happened when he was 22 and his friend was 16). This friendship of his is a bit strange. The only things they have in common are that they both are diabetic and they both use drugs (a variety ). The younger guy chooses where they go, what they do and what they wear! Anyway, I digress.
I never asked him to help with the bills so that he could enjoy the fruits of his labor and kind of build a dependence on himself and some of the finer things available to him. In fact I gave him money for gas, took his car to be serviced and even gave him extra money for outings. That way he could use his money for things he needed and wanted.
Well, at 24 I allowed him to move back in with us as long as he paid his own way and went to school to learn a trade (at 24, I figured it was way past time). He moved in and started school, he didn't have money for books so I helped him there but he had to pay his own way for everything else. He only lasted one semester and went back home ( he went home for summer break and just never came back). We had to call and ask if he was coming back and had to call several times to even get him on the phone. He was always off running around with his friend. His parents seem oblivious to the fact that when he is home he does drugs, he's always gone, and he does absolutely nothing to add to the finances at home and has no prospects. He always says he's going to do some sort of school and then finds a reason it won't work. And his ideas for the future always seem to be the same as his friends (whatever that is this week).
I led him to work and he worked a little and then wouldn't anymore.
I led him to school and he wouldn't go.
I'm sorry but he's not my kid and I think it's time for a little tough love. In my opinion any horse that won't drink needs to be left in its pen till he so thirsty he has to drink!

Yes, frequently! My horse has an automatic drinker in her stable, but when we are out at a show, or on another yard for a lesson, I offer her a bucket of water. If she's thirsty she drinks, if not she shakes her nose around in the water and drenches me!

I have owed several horses in my life but don't remember them not drinking when they were thirsty. I had one once that got to one of our apple trees and overate, then layed down. Had to call the Vet out to give him a shot to save him. But Wally, knowing you, you aren't really talking about horses are you? I get it. Good question. Scooter, please tell us you're kidding. (Whew)
Wick, just let me know if you don't want the horse and I'll drive over with my trailer and pick it up if he doesn't mind. lol
A horse would be such a wonderful animal for your son to have. I will cherish growing up and riding all over our property and more ,....forever.

Yes, many times.
I have shown people just why certain preachers were phony, and they absolutely refused to even look at what I had.
In the end, their pride was hurt so badly, they didn't even acknowledge anyone had warned them.
Live and learn, I guess.
Me? I guess there have been a number of times I didn't heed warnings. Just too stupid too listen, I reckon. Some things we learn the hard way, right?

No, but I've led my dogs to water and they didn't drink. They only drink water when they feel like it!

Yes, I gave it watermelon Gatorade. The mare loved it! Then she went back to drinking the water. The weather was very very cold at that time, so the water was frigid cold.

I know nothing about horses, but Scooter, is that really what you did? My uncle's friend said we can have one of his horses, we just have to pick it up. Yeah right, pick up a horse and then what? Force feed it? (kidding).
