My b/f and I have a car in his name. I'm currently out of town for 3 months for business. I heard from some friends that since I've been gone he hasn't made payments on the car and it has been repossessed. Is there a website or someone I can call to see if the car has been repoed. I know the plate number and the VIN number. I don't want to go back home and not have a car. P.S. This is in Illinois and the place he got it from won't give me any information since my name was not on the car.

Unless your name is on the loan and or the car, legally you have no interest in the vehicle. The bank (or finance company / dealer) is not going to tell you anything. They can not because of privacy laws!

It sounds to me that there are more problems here than just a car. If you do not trust your boyfriend, you need to work that situation out! The car is not yours. If you and he had an agreement where you were to make the payment and he was going to sign the car over to you when it was paid off, you should have been making the payments yourself. If he was making the payments and just letting you use the car, he can legally end that deal at any time!

Why don't you call him and ask him?

if you were paying the bill for the car in your boyfriends name you should have made arrangements ahead of your business trip to make the payments on line so you wouldn't have to worry whether or not the loan was being paid by the boyfriend and whether or not you would have a car to come home to.....you have learned a very expensive lesson.....in most cases the car is gone.....
if you can prove you were making payments for the car you might be able to sue him for return of the money you put out since he let the car be repossessed

Why don't you call your boyfriend and ask him? He should have all the answers for you. Are you sending him money for the payments? If you were, I'm sorry for you.

You need to call the auto theft department of the police department in the area it was taken. They will tell if it has been and who took it.

If it has and you want to keep it, you will need to call the lender and talk to them about getting it back.
