Ukraine. The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear reactor accident in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Soviet Union and the worst nuclear power plant disaster ever. It was the only level 7 instance on the International Nuclear Event Scale. It resulted in a severe release of radioactivity into the environment following a massive power excursion which destroyed the reactor. Two people died in the initial steam explosion, but most deaths from the accident were attributed to nuclear fallout.

Ukraine - which is a country in its own right (contrary to what all the answerers who put "Russia" may think)
The Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union but is now an independent country. It borders Russia to the east, Belarus to the north, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to the west, Romania and Moldova to the southwest, and the Black Sea and Sea of Azov to the south.
The capital city is Kiev.
The Chernobyl nuclear reactor plant is located near the town of Pripyat in Ukraine
