Over 3000 men was killed in Iraq. Yet everyone in america knows who jessica lynch even though she was not killed. She is recoving from the kidnap and rape but said that she is grateful to be alive and is a better state than the men who died. The young men who was killed in Iraq only received 5 minutes of news attention and few people know any of their names of the top of heads but everyone knows lynch who survived. Is this a double standard that people value women lives more than men.

Men (the people who have traditionally ran the governments of the modern world) can't stand the thought of a woman dying... and as such Culturally.. just about the whole world places more value on a womans life than a mans. It could be argued that this is genetically ingrained since one man can spread his seed to many women.. and on a quick pace... but women can only produce offspring once a year (and that's pushing the bill a little).

Although she got more attention then she probably needed. People I think make a bigger deal out of it since woman bear life. Men are suppose to protect woman. Other woman have died in the war other than Lynch. And haven't gotten any air time either. So your assumptions are false.

No. I do think that we expect that soldiers will be killed at war. I do think that we as a society ascribe a different character to rapists and kidnappers than to soldiers, incidentally.

The reason that the deaths of our troops is not given more attention is to allow their families to grieve privately.

No, it's not. If that is the only example you can think of, or the only person injured/endangered/killed in Iraq whose name YOU remember, I can see why you might think that.

American men, and I am sure most other men, feel that we should keep our women protected.
