512mb without a doubt mate. games like crysis will really use the extra ram. especially if you've got a 22" screen with a high resolution.

They are both the same except for the memory. I use the 8800GTS 640Mb BFG version which is more then enough for current demands like Crysis etc. However the two you've selected I'd for sure go for the 512mb version. Also, DirectX10 on Vista is not what it's supposed to be just yet, so to get the most out of the nvidia card, stick with XP for now.

both versions of the card are quite a good value, but it appears from some test results that 256 mb could be quite limiting for Antialiasing or large resolutions (where the size of the frame buffer would become a limiting factor).
here's a comparison of a (different brand) 256 mb 8800GT with several other cards, incluing a 512 mb 8800GT.

most important number is the clock speed...since the xfx has a clock speed of 650 MHz and the asus only 600 MHz, the xfx will run stuff faster

Opt for the 512MB, it is not outdated completely yet. I don't know what the dollar conversion factor is, but the price sounds high.

i dont understand plenty approximately those playing cards and what you're doing with them the two, so i'm no longer likely to study this one... i'm going to base it on my own concepts... i say get the 8800GT, this manner you have the alternative of going onto the SLI in case you opt for. now, in case you get the different card, you dont have that option ever, such as you reported... consequently, certainly get the 8800GT so which you do have the alternative of getting to flow to SLI once you opt for. additionally, in the event that they are close in overall performance, it extremely shouldn't count then in case you do get the 8800GT, this would be slower or quicker thanthe different... i dont understand, yet while it extremely is slower, you do have the skill to enhance besides. so do what you opt for! digital mail me in case you have any questions you are able to desire to come to a decision on me that should assist you study or answer for you, or in case you opt for me to study this for you and get lower back to you by utilising utilising digital mail
