It has nothing to do with this country. It's the lawyers.

It may be sickening to you...but when you read the article and see what the basis for the award is,then it makes sense. Just because someone is 'newsworthy' does not make them the best, just the fact that his name was published and recongnized throughtout the course of the year - and it doesn't matter wether it was in a favorable or positive way or not.
Makes you wonder what would happen in this world if we simply refused to publish or report the negatives of life - such as the recent shootings in Omaha and Colorado. If we do not recognize these people for the atrocious acts they commit and only focus on those postive people and events that occur, do you think we might be able to save the younger generation? To do this, we would have to turn off the radio and tvs because there is nothing but negative information spewing forth from these sources. It's just a dream, i know, can't possibly happen - but the world would be a much better place if we denied these negative things their 15 minutes of fame.

As the article notes, the award goes to the lawyer who is in the news the most. They've already awarded it to Mukasey for 2008 in anticipation of the stories he'll be part of. There's nothing in the award about the merits of the particular lawyer.

It is the symbol of the whole legal profession. It is not the best attorney or for heaven's sake not the most honest lawyer, it is the one who gets the most notoriety. Fits the mold.

Hang on.....once George gets out of office there will be a move afoot by the neocons and republicans to offer him up as the greatest president ever. I can see it now...Saint George the Wonderful.....Saint George the patron saint of the new class rich folk.....let the good times roll.

he is a lawyer..and that puts him among politicos on a caste scale..down the food chain near illegal aliens..or dependent patrons of the public sector..that could just as well work a job rather than produce little democrats that become crime statistics

I guess they could have given it to BJ Clinton. Oh wait, he was disbarred.
