Both - I make it sound good by describing the smells, colors, feel on your skin [of sea, sand, breeze]; sounds [surf, lilt of language, music]; taste of food and drink using adjectives that evoke pleasure....I try to 'paint a picture'

Hubert Selby Jr. cannot be topped when it comes to this. He wrote a book of short stories called "Song of the Silent Snow" and in it is a story of the same name, about a heavily depressed man that takes a walk while it is snowing and all is quiet around him....until he discovers he can actually hear the snow falling, each flake with a different sound, but the sounds did not clash.....and he goes on to describe the experience. Well worth reading; the entire book.

In person I sometimes speak like a book reads painting a picture of colors and sounds and smells to accentuate the minds eye. People that have known me for a long time nod and smile and I feel like they are experiencing the actual event with me.

long ago I worked in radio , briefly, we called it "theater of the mind". A 30 second spot was basically A BOLD FACED LIE.Jo's diner was a grease spot, but the ad would read "succulent rib's !" "mashed potato" when it was actually more like 'lube and oil change with a runny starch substance slapped on a almost clean plate.'

Hi Wally! Well once in a blue moon I can describe something so well that I am very satisfied that whomever I am telling could easily and vividly imagine it. I must admit though that I'm not very good at it... Good question...have a star my friend.

That depends on what I am describing. Am I describing the view out my window or my 22 yr.old oil leaking, gas guzzling pick-up that I'm trying to sell?

I've always wanted to be able to convey descriptions in that way but I've never done very well at it. I try my best though.

Make it look/sound good if I might wanna share their company or get their goat -- make it sound terrible if it's something I wanna keep to myself.
