to maybe be a little more patient with those who do?

I'm not talking about the lazy and/or indifferent. I mean those who are out there busting their fannies at thankless jobs.

YES!!!! My Dad had a big business of his own but wouldn't allow us to work for him until we had proved to him that we could handle working at a service industry job. And we just couldn't work it, we had to be good at what we do!!!
It taught me to appreciate service workers and to thank them in any way possible. It made me the good tipper that I am!!

I cannot answer this question any better than Lawrence Louis. But I might add that the export of our jobs overseas is likely the greatest crime inflicted on this nation by the current administration. The rich get richer off the backs of cheap labor. The Republicans have sold a bill of goods to the American public under the flag of morality. Middle-class Americans jumped on the conservative bandwagon based on issues like abortion and gay rights. With the banner of the moral majority, they have been able to pass their legislation which has been designed solely to allow the wealthy accumulate more wealth. They tout their success as the stock market goes up from expanding bottom line profits of major corporations. Yet, the American wage earner's income declines and fewer Americans have health insurance. Domestic companies like Ford and GM, who cannot export labor, face bankruptcy simply because they cannot compete with the overseas labor market. When 149 Chinese workers can be hired for the cost on 1 American worker, the American wage earner cannot compete either. 90% of American IT jobs have been exported to India. 100% of American textile jobs went to China. And 50% of our manufacturing and engineering jobs crossed the border into Mexico. These countries have booming economies and growing wages. The wealth of the American middle class is slowing being drained.

I have always worked in the service industry in one way or another. I have even considered doing some part time waitressing again, I always loved waitressing. But, I love going home also.

and yes, I agree with you. Working with the public can be very interesting, I get amused at the cranky s.o.b. who thinks because he has sat on his azz all day in a cubicle, he has a right to get pissy with me (I guess I'd be pissy too if I was enclosed like that all day ha) ... just an example there :)

LMAO...remember that other question of yours?? Gawd, I lost my train of thought...oh well, that'll do

That 31 days of Halloween HeII have made me into the kindest of customers. The same way bar tending and table waiting made me a swell tipper.

It would also bring home the importance of giving a fair tip to those who have served you well.
