What you are basing this all off of is what CM Punk is in the WWE.
A lot of CM Punk's fans today are not just a bunch of little kids thinking it's cool to have a Pepsi logo on your arm. The fans for CM Punk realize that this guy was beyond phenomenal and an up-and-coming star in the independent circuit. His matches in Ring of Honor is one reason why CM Punk gets a lot of respect from wrestling fans, and his run in TNA got him over as well.
His mic skills, in-ring ability, and moves while in the Independent circuit were light years beyond what he is restricted to now, and Morrison doesn't compare on the mic. His "Pepsi Plunge" was taken away because it makes the Pedigree look garbage (as well as stress the knees too much), the Anaconda Vice is barely used (if at all), and his athletic abilities are restricted to a Springboard Clothesline.
His physical form may not be impressive, but who cares about conditioning and "excess" if the guy wrestles well? Also, he is Straight Edge, so he's not going to be as fit-looking like others in the WWE. If anything, his shape makes him more realistic and connects him to fans more than being a monstrous, muscle mass.
You don't have to like him, but CM Punk is a good wrestler. He is just a guy falling victim to WWE's restrictions on moves, and his "Straight Edge" personality is best done as a heel in the ECW (since the lifestyle on the "brand" is hardcore).
**Thank you, Leese.

The belts in WWE are a joke now. Especially ECW(which is a joke of a show anyway). I bet ya pretty soon Hornswoggle will be WWE, ECW, or World champ. He'll win some battle royal or something stupid.
My champs would be
ECW-Tommy Dreamer(being the only ECW original he should win it at least once) or Big Daddy V(has been in WWE for a long *** time and never really held any gold)
WWE-Shelton Benjamin(needs to go back to raw, work on his mic skills, they are getting better IMO, and win the WWE title)
World-Edge(He is great on the great, and can put on a better show than Cena, Batista, and Punk put together)

He's a talented & gifted pure technical wrestler. He's been trained by both Finlay & Regal back in the day & has come up to WWE the hard way.He was on ROH, TNA, the off-shoot WWE training fed OVW before he made the jump to ECW.
He's got a wide range of moves & he's had to adjust to his finishers. The Pepsi Plunge & Shining Wizard ~ like the 450 shooting star ~ was deemed too risky. His in-ring skills tell their own story,
As far as mic skills or persona, a lot of other stars use that as stock-in-trade.CM lets the wrestling speak for him.Similar stars like Jeff Hardy,Chavo, AJ Styles or Chris Daniels arent exactly hot as personas or masters of the mic. They're still over with fans in their own right. And still on a big push in their respective brand.

I still have no opinion of CM Punk as a wrestler. I do not watch him enough to have a good idea if he is as good as they say, is over rated, or is underrated, but I do have some comments I would like to make.
First, there is NO WAY he is out of shape. There are 3 basic body types that humans fall under in the Samatotype, and in those 3 basic body types they break up into more. Those 3 types are endomorphic, mesomorphic, and ectomorphic.
CM Punk is listed as a Ectomorphic. Within this body type is several breakdowns and sub categories. Punk falls under one of these sub cats and it basically is decribed as very long, very lean muscle mass which means that while they are able to "be in shape" they will never get a body that looks musculer. In the same since, Would you call a marathon runner in bad physical shape? No you wouldnt, and the same goes for Punk. While he may not be bulky and musculer he IS in good shape, if it is only in good shape for his body type.
As far as "scores victories over vastly superior superstars (john morrison)." I would ahve to argue. While I think Morrison is a great worker you cannot deny that he simply screams tag team wrestler. As much as I like seeing him work, I am sure I was not the only one who was a bit put off when they put the ECW title on him over several other guys.
Also, you refer to poor mic skills and a bad/no persona. This IS pre wrestling and it has been proven over and over and over again that you dont need great mic skills to get over(chyna, Benoit, Melenko, etc). You also dont need a good persona to get over either. And while we are at it, you dont even need great, or even good in ring skills or moves to get over HUGELY. Dont beleive it? Ask Rock, Hogan, Luger, Austin, Cena, etc etc etc.
Punk gets over for a few simple reasons. When you see CM Punk you see a young, hip, every day guy who comes across as a tatooed Punk, yet openly claims the clean life style of no drugs, alcohol and tobacco! Simply put he has the bad stuff you want as a teen and the good stuff you want FOR your teen! Add that look he has, the way he dresses, and the decent in ring work rate and you get someone who is over. And while he may not be the greatest worker he is good enough to work with a large number of different styles and he understands how to tell a story in the ring.
You dont have to like him, but atleast recognize what this business is really about and see why he is where he is. There is more to him being on top than simply "vince+kids love him." and even if you dont like someone a true wrestling fan will be able to see the things even that they dont like.
For instance. I am a HUGE Honky Tonk Man fan. For some reason I just really was entertained by him and to me, he is one of my top 5 favorites of all time. Now, with that being said I KNOW that HTM was not one of the top 5, or even top 25 greatest wrestlers of all time. While I like him personally I recognized that it was a gimmick I liked and I know how to seperate a gimmick I liked with real in ring talent!

Bravo Donovan T! I just want to echo what you said. I get sick of people making judgments about Punk's charisma and wrestling ability without knowing his full body of work.
Punk is one of the most talented, charismatic wrestlers in the business today. Unfortunately, WWE has misused him and doesn't allow him to show what he can do.
They need to turn Punk heel, put him on RAW, and let him shine. However, it won't happen. Triple H doesn't want anyone stealing his thunder...and believe me, Punk could do it.

i do no longer elect CM Punk to depart because of the fact he makes uncooked extra exciting and he's one in all my present day in demand WWE superstars. nicely,i assume he has to depart however considering that he's possibly bored with vacationing perpetually and needs to relax and spend time together with his kinfolk. i'm hoping he comes lower back sooner or later quickly.

in the wwe you got to do what they say if you dont you can **** off now the way cm punk is wrestling at the moment and the kind of moves he does is not entirely up to him, if you look back at his matches in roh and the other indie promotions you will realise how talented he is and why wwe signed him up in the first place, for example the way sabu wrestled in the original ecw did he do so the same way in the new ecw a big no.

he doesnt have bad moves wwe is definatly limiting what hes aloud to do come on they wont even let him do the pepsi plunge. hes in good shape ..of course if he was pumped up on steroids he'd look more in shape. but because he is straight edge hes not. i agree with you with the championship thing one of the bigest reasons he is champ though is because morrison got suspended for breaking the drug policy.

CM Punk is getting pushed because of his anti-drug gimmick, plain and simple. It is not mere coincidence that he beat Morrison for the WWECW title when he did.
