It tells me "protection: partially running"
Signatures are corrupted.
Some protection components have malfunctioned.

it tries to do this:
File download started bases/ids/i386/idsbase.kdz
but comes back with this:
Network operation timeout expired http://dnl-eu5.kaspersky-labs.com/bases/ids/i386/idsbase.kdz
What should I do?
Any help appreciated

If you are on dialup, then in this day of high techology and ADSL, T1 Spans, the majority of servers that download software will time out. (Reason is you are using up their bandwidth and your connection is to slow).

The above is just an example, as you don't state if you are on dialup or ADSL.

You should be able to go to Kaspersky Labs, webpage and download the updates from their server and perhaps it will work instead of the auto. updates.

You will get a much better answer on the Kaspersky forums.
