All this time, conservatives have resisted offering a deadline by which the war will be over... yet apparently someone here knows that it is "almost successfully over."

So since this is the case, I'd like to know the date we will be withdrawing, please.

by "almost" they mean 10 more years....and by successful, they mean we've successfully installed another western puppet democracy by force, which will allow us to open a brand new Walmart and McDonalds in Baghdad..

Depsite what they say....we will virtually never leave Iraq. We didn't spend $1.6 billion to build an air base, smack in the middle of Iraq that intended to use for only 2-3 years. Listen to the Generals, when pressed they all say we'll be there 20-50 years. That means they don't ever expect the war to be "over".

Why would we occupy a country that is stable that does not need our intervention.

Germany you ask? That is an interesing question. Ask yourself, is there one country we have invaded or allied with that we don't occupy to this day? Yes one France.

Answer...maybe that's why some don't trust the French, they wouldn't let us stay after the war.

Iraq has no choice in the matter, nor does Germany.

Your withdrawal date?

When the USA is barkrupt from trillions in dept to the entire civilized world or if we can hang in there that long with this insane imperial foreign policy and all it's debt......January 19, 2083.

We are rapidly approaching the end of our active military involvement. This will probably be followed by a a period of continued training and military advisors. But the troop levels should start being drawn down in a matter of months. Our involvement will most likely continue for many years to come.

I assume Almost Successfully Over means nearly over and the outcome is successful. Nearly over is a cautious way to put it. It looks pretty good now but you can never tell when something may flare up again. Nearly successful is the most one can say at this point. While the military has succeeded in it's goals the true success will come when the politics in Iraq are finally straightend out.

It is not just Conservatives that will not offer any deadline. When you intend to redeploy your troops is not someting you want to notify the enemy of in advance. America and any other country would not want to provide that kind of intelligence to its enemies.

This will be a wonderful accomplishment. A new democracy right in the heart of the Middle East. Believe me, nothing but good things can come from this. Liberty is contageous. The true spirt of man is to live free and be self-determining not subject to some tyrant.

No, it is not over yet but the light at the end of the tunnel is growing brighter and larger every day. Please keep our brave men and women in harms way in your prayers. God bless them and keep them safe. I hope they will be back with thier loved ones soon filled with the pride of a job well done!

Merry Christmas!

I agree, though I think "almost successfully over" is a bit optimistic. We have made long strides toward that end this year. I believe "successfully over" will be when we can withdraw most of our troops from a stable Iraq, capable of maintaining its own security. However, it's still too early to be able to state exactly when we will withdraw, nor is it wise to announce a withdrawal date ahead of time.

No where close to being over! Ive also heard this along the same lines.... "We are winning the war in Iraq"... what exactly does that mean? How can America win the Iraqi's civil war? Just like Ron Paul said, we give them the bombs to blow up the bridges and buildings, then we turn around and pay to rebuild the bridges and buildings. So we are over there doing nothing but making things worse and dramatically increasing our countries debt.

No, I don't agree and we will be staying there a long time. If the conservative Republicans think it is almost over then they do believe that George W. Bush is a liar because he has stated on many occassion that we will be there a long time to come.

What you and most libs fail to understand is that none of us from either side of the aisle wants to have our troops in harms way. Conservatives want the troops home as quickly as the liberals. Fact of the matter is Saddam lied and was trying to bluff Iran his enemy into thinking he had WMD's. Iran does not, thus they were held back. Two Presidents, both Clinton and Bush knew this, but didn't know it was a bluff. Bush took him out because of his threats. As passionate as Conservatives are towards their fellow man, thy didn't want to leave the people of Iraq in a war torn state, yet wanted to help them get it back together. Remember the purple thumbs. That was them, and not our doing. There is recent stability in Iraq though weak at the moment it is gaining momentum. Once the momentum is strong enough we will claim victory for the Stabilizing of Iraq, and troops come home like both sides want.

It means that the amount of insurgent activity has declined, which it has -- quite markedly. The "surge" is working as intended. But don't hold your breath waiting for withdrawal; we still have people in Germany -- and that war ended sixty years ago.

The person that stated this is either misinformed, gullible, or a fool. Possibly all of these. Since this is not a war but an occupation I wouldn't look for an end anytime soon.

No, it's far from over.

Just because one person says something, doesn't mean anything. Making a mountain out of a molehill like this is not an intellectual pursuit.

couldnt they have just rented a porno flick?!!! ($20.00)!!!

edit: this war was meant to be a continuus, permanent longtime business venture, and we are supposed to become desensitzed to it sooner or later!!!
