Well?

"War is hell?"
That's it? Some lame meaningless cliche? Let's see what hell is really like when Americans completely ruin any semblance of the "moral high ground."

My apologies for not being more clear, I thought it was a very simple concept.
I'm not talking about whether the Geneva Conventions "covers" anybody or not.
I'm talking about the fact that the Geneva Conventions CLASSIFIES WATERBOARDING AS TORTURE.
America signed it.
American also says, "We do not torture."
So? Which is it?
Also, as has already been pointed out on these boards several times, the United States has PROSECUTED waterboarding for over 100 years.
So? why would we think we can do it to others now? When we have TRIED AND HUNG other nationalities for doing it to us?

To "thegod" - I'd like for everyone to read this response very, very carefully. THIS IS THE REASON we experienced 9/11.
That's right.
Because of morons like that.
Hey, pal?
You do not speak for AMERICANS you speak for sick, sick perverts. You are the antithesis of an American.

I'm amazed by some of the answers, "US is torturing people who deserve to be tortured" and "We do it because we can, who's going to stop us?" Arrogance like this made empires fall, if you look back. About waterboarding, no one deserves to be tortured like this, but this is just one event that got out. What about those things CIA does we never hear about? This one of those things that really make me mad, one country's ambition to remain the superpower is causing people to suffer all over the world. I live in Bangladesh, and our "democracy" is CONTROLLED by the US. I just hope this time America realizes that they can't do what they want. If they want to, their own people will stop it from happening.

We are in the hands of crude, immoral, rich, and intellectually-limited men. They do not have the grasp of world affairs or the ability to intelligently handle any crisis that FDR or Winston Churchill had. They are like high school kids gleefully planning on beating up the class nerd.
George Bush has been a troublemaker all of his life, with rebellious behavior, alcoholism, etc. He says he has given up drinking, but this "C" student thinks he knows more than anyone else and is easily led by evil advisors. He has ignored, not only the Geneva Accords, but the Kyota treaty, all environmental concerns, the FISA laws, etc. As a country, we have little decency and no honor.
Our soldiers will suffer because the the Bush doctrines. Bush has lowered us to the behavior of those we are battling against. Instead of looking up to us as a civilized, intelligent people, we will be regarded as thugs and we have created more terrorists with every passing day.

Explain that to the neocons who just see the next enemy around the corner and terrorists are everywhere. Honor has no meaning for them. Which is why I am a moderate Democrat and can't wait till Bush and Cheney are indicted for war crimes and violations of the Geneva Conventions when they leave office in 2009. Then we can hopefully start to bring honor back to the US with a democrat in the White House.

No one deserves to be tortured. All humans have inalienable rights. Our country was founded on ideals like that. The fact that we follow the Geneva convention is what makes us one of the good guys. Ironically the same people who want to ignore this are the same people who say our country was founded on Christian principles.

Agreed, but hey war is hell. The present administration are denizens of one Hell's very LOWEST levels, which consists of hypocritical politicians.( the other one houses lying, stealing, stealing religious leaders) So of course that's why Cheney hangs out like a bat in his basement bunker.I didn't vote for the current batch of "good Christian" amoralists in the White House, and to use another truism: "Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely."Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. STAR.

the grim reality: most American politicos and military leaders think that "might makes right"...and of course it does...until you no longer have the might and have squandered away all international respect, friendship, loyalty, support, and trust.

i am glad people like "thegod" shares their opinions with the rest of us, he does a better job of turning people away from his kind of mentality than any criticism ever could. besides, some people would never believe such arrogant lunatics exist if they didn't come here and prove it for all of us to see!

to quote one of my contacts "blueridgeliving".
"the object of torture is torture". What are the prerequisites for the torturer? do they just got around during parade day and higgley-piggley ask the "guys" hey, ya wanna help torture some people?
this administration has done a lot of things we have hung other countries for doing. this isn't about America, this is about 1 self-deluded man and his cult.

In this case it is not covered by the Geneva Convention, but that still does not make right. Our own laws probably consider it illegal. But this has nothing to do with commitments, this time.
One point though, how many terrorists follow the rules of the Geneva Convention or virtually any law?

Under the Bush administration there is NO authority over them. Work together for the betterment of all? Hardly. He is the "decider". Things must go his way only. After all he is the most important man in the world!!
