Sorry...this may be long!!
I ran over a chunk of wood in my 06 VW Bug, i dented the skid plate (which has already been hammered back out) and I dented my Transmission pan. I took my car to 5 different places to get opinions. Every shop said I need my transmission pan either reshaped (by again, hammered back out) and a new gasket. So I took my car to a shop Monday evening, the shop promised my car to be ready by 1:00pm on Tuesday. I called the shop Tuesday 3 different times to check on my car. They said 2 times it will absolutely be ready by the time I get off work. I called again at 3:00 and the guy told me my car was ready, they were putting the skid plate back on and I would be ready to go. So at 5pm, after work my dad called to make sure they would still be there to pick my carup and they tell him they couldn't figure out how to put the transmission fluid back into my car, said they would be calling the VW Dealer in the morning (Wed. morning) and find out how to put it in..........

So late last night my dad and I were coming back home from picking up food and he jokingly said oh theres your car! .... and it was definite ly my car and we turned around. It was not at the shop that I left it out. They took it to someone else without my permission. so this morning I stopped in the shop that I orginally left it at, and they told me they took it to the other shop and they would call me. Well I took it upon myslef to go to the other shop and check on my car...
Turns out the first shop did more DAMAGE then good. They tried to force the fluid where it was not supposed to go and caused a leak and destroyed 2 "O" rings. Not only did they try and put the fluid where it did not belong, they were trying to Re-Use my fluid instead of putting in new, un-used fluid!
The 2nd shop, whre my car is now is having to RE-DO everything the first shop did!
The first shop--from the begining before they touched my car quoted me $100.00 for the repair of the trans pan, gasket & labor

So here is my question... since the 2nd shop is having to RE-DO EVERYTHING!! Should I refuse to pay the first shop the $100. considering they didn't do anything to my car except use a hammer to pound agains some metal. Not to mention ....they DID CAUSE THE LEAK! Shoudln't they have to pay for the "O" rings considering they damaged them.????

I hope this isn't too confusing! and Thank you in advace for all advice!!

I'm not surprised at this because most vehicles with an automatic transmission are now made with a sealed unit that has no filler neck or dipstick. The fluid is added through a filler hole somewhere and the level can be impossible to set without some knowledge of the particular vehicle. The shop is right to find out the proper fill procedure instead of guessing like some would do.=============================

Well,it looks like they guessed after all and got it wrong.I wouldn't pay them for botching the job. There's nothing they can do about it and I'm sure they don't want to have word of this get around.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise...Any competent shop can remove the trans oil pan and the skid plate. What I think is happening here is that the shop your dealing with has just realized that the fluid in your trans is not red, like most auto trans fluid is, and they freaked out. VW uses a mineral oil based hydraulic fluid that is GOLDEN in color and they are trying to protect themselves from being sued for mixing the VW fluid with regular auto trans fluid..They are probably trying to contact the VW dealer to figure out why the fluid looks so diffeerent and what to do about it. I'm sure that they don't want to harm your car, they're just trying to protect themselves by making sure they do the right thing. Also, I believe, this is a sealed system and you must add fluid where the speedometer sender is, and not through a dipstick tube. They are not trying to stall you, they just want to do it right. Make sure that they show you the bottle of fluid they are using to refill your trans. Good Luck!!!

Maybe the first shop is paying the shop that they took your car to. Check with the second shop and see who's actually paying.

Report the first shop to the Agency that controls automotive repair in your state if you're not satisfied. And also check with the Better Business Bureau.

Try to get the information your mechanic needs to facilitate the repair. Am surprised they can't figure this out, so I would be very suspicious about this shop. May want to go to the shop and have a face to face conversation.

I could be VERY cautious approximately purchasing a salvage automobile with no near inspection. It appears like a bumper, headlamp, nearside wing and feasible a bonnet. You is also capable to get all of that moment hand for approximately £2 hundred then you have got the Painting to compare price
