I have just recently purchased Ranger 23 sailboat. The boat was somewhat neglected by the previous owners. I am trying to give it a facelift. The plastic (vinyl) covering is peeling off the walls inside the cabin. It will need to be replaced. Does anyone know what kind of material is used inside the cabin to cover the walls? It looks like self adhesive plastic liner of some sort. Thanx.

yep, its something called "hull liner" or just liner..........Defender Industries is a good source.....and yes, I'd seriously consider getting rid of it and painting instead..paint can be wiped clean, doesn't age, you don't have to worry about matching seams, etc etc....now if the old stuff will come off clean, and not leave it's backing stuck to the 'glass you can do either of the above. If the liner is disintegrating and leaving the backing, you may be in for a long messy process getting the glue off.....in which case you will probably have to reline, as you'll never get it smooth enough to paint.

Many liners come in sheets and you have to put it on with contact cement....fumes in an enclosed cabin are VERY unhealthy, cause blinding headaches, and are very explosive.

WHAT FUN!

if you go the liner route, get something that doesn't require contact adhesive, use lots of fans and good luck!

Well I think for practical reasons painted fibre glass, but then if I was that practical I would rip up the carpet in my house and paint the floor too, but it is nice to have the interior felt fabric. I have just put new stuff in mine. It is the same stuff as you have in the boot of your car, like felt but synthetic.
You take the old stuff out, then use it as a pattern to cut out the new stuff, be sure to lable the back in conjunction to where it is to go inside the boat.
Easy peasy:-)

I would just remove the rest of the material, wipe it down with acetone and paint it with topside paint
