Seriously, I had a disturbing dream the other night- I talked to Guliani. I asked him this same question - he smirked, and said Republicans won't win. I am a true paleo-conservative. I have been against this "war" since its inception. I just want to know why Republicans think they can win with this "war on terror" tactic when 7/10 americans are against it. Furthermore, 35% of republicans are against it. If republicans were truly scared of Democrats winning the Presidential election - why wouldn't they embrace someone like Ron Paul or have more options like Ron Paul's antiwar stance.

If the war in Iraq were the number 1 issue you may have a point. The public is more interested with stopping illegal immigration, keeping taxes low, building the economy, and solving some of our health care problems. After the '06 election, if anyone still believes that the democrats will get the US out of Iraq, they really must enjoy the Kool-Aid. The fact that GOP held onto 2 of it's house seats, and won the LA governors race, should tell you that all politics is local. If Bush were running again GOP prospects would be grim, but despite the fact that every Democrat is running against Bush, doesn't mean he's on the ticket.

People always get to the heart of their point at the end of what they are saying. Obviously this is a push for Ron Paul, whom I like and wish had a real chance of winning. Unfortunately it doesn't make much more sense to use those numbers. Its like when a commercial comes on and says 9/10 Dentists agree....
What does that really mean? The truth is that the American people feel we have an obligation to stay in Iraq. Why do you think Hillary is changing her stance on it again? Why has Obama begun to shift his stance? The fact is we've taken over and now we are morally obligated to see to their safety while they form a gov't that can do it themselves.

That's only one issue. Look at how low Congress's approval rating has dropped since the Democrats took over. They are probably leaning heavily that this will help them win. And immigration is a big issue for this election. A majority of people support what many of the Republican candidates propose we do to solve the problem.

Also, if you look at their campaigns, no one is really saying the "B" word ("Bush"). They are distancing themselves from the President because they know he also has a low approval rating. And who ever gets the nomination, you can bet they will not be asking Bush to campaign with them.

*EDIT* - Look at the link you provided again. This is talking about the war in IRAQ, not the war on TERROR. Most people do agree with the war on TERROR, but think the war in IRAQ is for the wrong reasons.

Because polls are subjective. they depend on who you ask and where. If a poll is taken and 70% of the people polled don't like the President (and this is known beforehand by the pollister) what do you think the outcome will be? This is then presented to the American People as a "fair and balanced" poll. The only poll that has any standing is the one taken on election day. And if you are presenting a dream as some sort of evidence you are far more a liberal than you realize.

Why does Hillary think she has a chance when 50% of Americans don't like her? And why do people like Chris Dudd, the Breck Girl, and Bill Richardson continue to run. Are they too stupid to recognize they have no chance by now? Why didn't you have a dream about Obama, does any sane person think he could win a general election? I think your 70% number is being taken out of context.

I don't know about the 70% stat. I find it somewhat high. In my opinion the politcions that do the best job of appealing to voters that actually take the time to exercise their right will always win. So who cares about polls? Just get the votes.

This poll is approval of Bush's Handleing the war, not the War itself. It's more against the person handeling it than the actual act of war.

They know it's a shell game, except for Ron Paul that wants to give it one last-ditch effort at restoring our erstwhile great nation.
