Why do some Christians warn of this "spiritual awakening" which is supposed to come?

Alot to do with 2012.
I've read alot about Christ coming back in the spirit, rather than the flesh.

I'm not really educated with this whole Mayan concept.
Any info would be great.

Anyone picking a date Christ will be back didn't read their Bible carefully. (Since the Bible implies that this will happen at a time it is least expected, and that no one knows the day or hour it will happen, it is almost a lock that it won't be in 2012!)

Exactly what the people you heard this from were talking about is something you'd have to ask then, but basically there will come a point where all the atheists begging for proof will have their faith shaken by events that, though people will come up with a 'scientific' explaination, will be obvious to anyone relying on plain common sense that God exists--the end times prophecies predict global disasters on a scale the world has never seen (since the flood), and some of them are downright weird--like a plague of insects that will never sting God's people, but will cause pain but not death that lasts for months to everyone else. Also, every person will have to choose whether or not they wish to pledge allegance to the government (that will have the antichrist leading it) that will be forming while all of this is going on. It may have been one of these events they were speaking about.

I'm a Christian and I'm not too impressed by the 2012 predictions. I think that most of us are aware that nobody knows what the future has in store and any predictions claiming to know about the end of the world are just educated guesses and nothing more.

There was a thourough documentary about 2012 that aired on the History channel, you can find some of the information at http://www.history.com. There's also some information regarding a book that was written that can be found at http://www.survive2012.com. Your best bet, though, is to do a search for 12/21/12 (the alleged doomsday) and find sites for both the believers and the skeptics.

I can't sum it up as well as the websites dedicated to it can, but I'll do my best.

Basically, the Mayan calendar stops on 12/21/12, which happens to be the exact date when the Earth actually is supposed to be alligned with a black hole. There are also theories saying that the I-Ching predicted this doomsday, that ancient oracles (Merlin, the Oracle at Delphi, among others) predicted it, and that the web-bot program has also predicted it.

My personal opinion isn't that it's the end of the world, but just that a solar event is going to happen. That's pretty much a fact. Just a solar event. Some people need to stop being so quick to panic. My main belief for this being just another end of the world prediction that will never come to frutition? Very simple. If this is something we've known about for apparently hundreds or thousands of years, or even for just a few years, why is it just starting to gain popularity now? 'Nuff said. :)

I'm an Eastern-Orthodox Christian and I think I can help you. My opinion is that it just doesn't matter what will happen in 2012!

I know, I know... the Mayans say that we'll pass a world, the I Ching Book says the same thing. Then lots of predictors say also that we'll pass a "cycle". But it just doesn't matter! I'm not afraid of what it will happen.

Anyway, if Jesus is going to come He wouldn't do anything that would harm us. Our souls will remain intact anyway!

My very personal opinion is that God is making a "grooming" the world. I'm very sure that we are living during the Apocalypse. Many diseases will come. Many natural disasters will come. Only good people will pass this.

You see... Everything is going wrong!!! I live in Romania, which is in Europe and here we never had such phenomenas like desertification and tornadoes. The world never experienced such disasters like the big tsunami in 2005 or the huge tornadoes in USA.

The world "is being cleaned" by God. In the Bible we can find that Satan will almost rule the world in the last days of the humanity. There will be many natural disasters (the Bible suggests that there will be "a star falling from the sky on the seas and the third part of the seas will be bitter" (or something like that).

Anyway, the matter is not important. The souls are everything that really matters. We must be better in order to pass this "Grand Grand Test".
