The owners where running a buisness but did not have insurance. They had other properties that they ran as a business.

If you sued the business and won, but the business closed down and had no assets, you're out of luck.

You 'might' have been able to "pierce the corporate veil" and sue the owners personally, but that's unlikely - and in any event since a personal injury lawyer doesn't collect unless there's money TO collect, I'm sure he looked into that possibility - but you can always call him and ask him.
