If you have only 3 days for another destination, the most practical option is to choose a touristically compact city, such as Barcelona, London or Prague. Barcelona's generous display of tasteful modern art, festive nigthlife and great cuisine should make it at the top of your agenda. If you have already been there, consider Prague which is really beautiful and as medieval as it could get. Truth is, most of the major European cities are so culturrally rich that they must be seen. Paris.
I would hop on a flight to Paris for the three days. I seem to remember the flight from Dublin is only about an hour and a half. If it's your first time in Europe, Paris is an absolute must see. And if you're spending two weeks in Ireland, you will have seen a lot of beautiful countryside. Visiting one of the world's great cities will balance the trip. Try a little hotel in the Latin Quarter. It's very easy to get around the city on the Metro. July is hot and humid, by the way. And Paris is not cheap.
However, you may have some cultural background or a personal interest that you should consider. If you have a passion for ancient history, think about Rome. Venice is magical, but can be a little lonely if you are not sharing it with someone special. Barcelona's a lot of fun. London is close, but I think it's pretty blah (sorry folks, my opinion). Anywhere furthur or too remote and you start to eat up valuable time just getting there and back. And three days is not much.
But if you spend a couple days in Paris, I'll bet you'll start planning your next visit on the flight home...
Enjoy your trip!

Three days is not much time to get anywhere and spend any significant time. If you want to split up your time, for landscapes, I would suggest Germany for the Bavarian Alps, very beautiful any time of the year. Spain is also an extremely beautiful country with a lot of diverse areas. If you're looking for something a little off the beaten path, I would suggest Austria, Finland, and Poland. If you like architecture and want something a little different, you can't beat Prague. I hope this helps. Have a great trip.

Try a trip through Europe on train! this way you'll get the chance to see more than staying in one place, and next year you'll know where to come back! You need at least a week per country to catch 1/5 of the beauty.
But if you must choose:
Prague, Czech Republic, and Budapest, Hungary
Greece, France and Italy - but these countries need more than a week each.

3 days? It's not enough, but if you want culture the must see places are the countries where great ancient civilisations flourished, which are Greece and Italy. Can't you "borrow" a few days from the 15 you have in Ireland to visit both? Otherwise, I'd say choose one.

Three days is a v.short time. I would do
London or Amsterdam: London is really exciting and I love it, but it's huge and maybe you won't have enough time to see much. Amsterdam is really charming and beautiful and quite small, so it's easy to walk around it's lovely channels.
Barcelona: eclectic, Mediterranean, great food, great people, lot's of sightseeings, good weather and fantastic nightlife.
Rome: City of culture and History, beautiful, one of most importan European capitals. So much to see and enjoy.
But there are many other cities and countries that you should see in another visit such as Paris, Venice, Madrid, Florence, Brugges, Berlin...

replace England to London, and alter u . s . to city. i'm from a area in England called Cumbria, and that's maximum certainly no longer a diverse place. you are able to choose for years there without seeing a single foreigner/ non-white.
