Sometimes. Lenny Bruce yes. Johnny Carson no.

In my experience, most people crack jokes because they enjoy laughing and feeling happy, and they love seeing others happy too. It can be a gift worthy of spreading around.

Happiness is a choice, so we might as well choose to enhance it.

That is a non-conclusive argument can be launched and seems to be true but the dirct connection is not there in a absolute form. In otherwords you can not say the same is true for everyone who is funny that they are in fact doing so out of sadness.

I attached an old study on the subject of humor as a defense mechanism to help you in seeing what academics think of this hypothesis. They do see some strong correlations but nothing definitive. Thus the best that I can say is it is a good theory but not quite concrete.

Enjoy the reading.

Nope, we just like laughing. I enjoy a bit of sadness now and again, but in general, I'm just an upbeat person. And besides, did you know that laughing burns calories? Hah! We funny people will rule the world one day. Just look at J Leno or whoever: people quote them more than they quote Ghandi, or Madame Curie.

Fear the laughter!! Muahaha!

I think they're is much truth to what you just asked here. Many comedians will tell you that they have depression, or they have some manic depressive disorder of some kind. I think the jokes at themselves and others is a way of letting go of what hurt they are really feeling on this inside.

You would have to narrow down what type of comedy you are referring to. If you are concerned about sarcastic wit, that might be true... but I think your assumption, if directed at comedy in general, would be wrong.

lighten up a bit, after all - laughter is the best medicine!

bit dumb cos the best judgment is fallacious - no one is dumb sufficient to confuse the music of their iPod with the music of the nightclub, secondly how can one not tell theyre listening to their iPod in a club ? 3rdly what moron might do this ? hear to their iPod in a nightclub? finally - heh, good comedian tale - yet as i stated, logically fallacious in places. ^_^ each and all the appropriate MR ANFIELD ACES ~ " the peoples determination " ~
