6x-2y=6

i'm trying to locate the x- and y-intercepts in ordered pairs. this is very confusing to me. Please help. Thank you.

The x-intercept is where y = 0.

6x - 2(0) = 6

6x = 6

x = 1

So (1, 0) is the x-intercept.

The y-intercept is where x = 0

6(0) - 2y = 6

-2y = 6

y = -3

So (0, -3) is the y-intercept.

write the equation as 6x/6 -2y/6 =1
--> x - y/3 = 1

Now use the standard formula that x/a + y/b =1
then a and b are the intercepts on the x and the y axis respectively

-- x intercept= 1 and y intercept = -3

The other approach that you can try is first put y = 0 to find out the x intercept.

This gives 6x =6
--> x= 1

Then put x= 0 to find the y intercept

-2y = 6
-> y = -3

Two Methods
- - - - - - - -

Method 1

x Intercept

6x - 2y = 6

transpose 2y

6x - 2y + 2y = 2y + 6

6x = 2y + 6

Divide both sides of the equation by 6

6x / 6 = 2y / 6 + 6 / 6

x = 1/3y + 1

- - - - - - - - - -

y intercept

6x - 2y = 6

Transpose 6x

6x - 2y - 6x = - 6x + 6

Collect like terms

- 2y = - 6x + 6

Divide both sides of the equation by - 2

- 2y / - 2 = -( 6x / - 2) + (6 / - 2

y = - (- 6x / 2) + (- 3)

y = 3x - 3

- - - - - - - -

Method 2

x intercept

6x - 2y = 6

y = 0

6x - 2(0) = 6

6x - 0 = 6

Divide both sides of the equation by 6

6x / 6 = 6 / 6

x = 6/6

x = 1

- - - - - - - - - -

y intercept

x = 0

6x - 2y = 6

6(0) - 2y = 6

0 - 2y = 6

- 2y = 6

Divide both sides of the equation by - 2

- 2y / - 2 = 6/ -2

y = - 6/2

y = - 3

6x - 2y = 6
simplify the equation we will get:
3x-y=3
to simplify it further, get two equation to find the x and y intercept. thus we get:
x = (y+3)/3
x = (y/3) + 1
and
y = 3x - 3

substitute x and y by zero to get the x and y intercept:
x = (y/3) + 1
x = (0/3) + 1
x = 1
and
y = 3x - 3
y = 3(0) - 3
y = -3
hence, the x and y intercept is:
(1, -3)

substitute x with 0 to find y, and substitute y with 0 to find x. this leaves you with your ordered pair.

6(0)-2y=6
-2y=6
y=-3

6x-2(0)=6
6x-0=6
6x=6
x=1

ordered pair is (1, -3)
