I think that Boston has to be the Vegas favorite at this point. Not to mention that Detroit picked up Willis and Cabrera and Cleveland looks tight. The Yankees pitching, basically stinks. Team ERA was almost 1 run higher than Boston and worse in the postseason. Pitching really does win championships. Ask Josh Beckett, Curt Schilling or Randy Johnson. BTW, I am a Cubs fan, so I know that life is not fair, Yankees fans.

im a yankees fan, but i dont think they will
the only reason i wood say yes is because im a big yankee fan. But they dont have pitching. They always get the old guys and they r losing all of ther talent. I think that is really the only thing is there pitching. I think they'll make the playoffs and lose in the first round, unfortunatly, There not going to be the great Yankees they used to be, well, not this year at least. :-\

They are one of the teams that have a shot. I think they will do something big in the next few months to become a contender. Brian Cash man is not one to sit and watch the red sox pick up Santana (if it happens) and not take action. I forsee a Vladamir playing outfield for the Yankees.
That being said, I think the team with the BEST chance to win the world series from the AL in 08' is the Detroit Tiger's. After that, the Red Sox, then the Indians and Yankees

probably not. The redsox showed this past season that they are clearly the team to beat, and if they trade lester and some minor league players for santana, this will be their starting pitching rotation.
1. Santana 2. Beckett 3. Schilling 4. Matsuzaka 5. Bucholtz/Wakefield
if you have never heard of Bucholtz, he pitched a no hitter this past season, it was his rookie season.
The yankees also no longer have joe torre mamaging their team, and he brought them 4 world champoinships in 12 years. And hank steinbrenner doesn't look like the owner that his father was. Plus, Detroit has the d-train(dontrale willis) and cabrera.
point is, the yankees have a lot of competition in the american league, and they lost big pieces of their team during the off season.

The yankees probably won't even make the playoffs in 2008. They fired arguably the best manager they've had in the past 50 years, and replaced him with a guy who got fired from his last managing job (after 1 year) for butting ehads with the front office.
Girardi's a total control freak. How's he going to get along with Cashman, Levine, and the Steinbrenners?
Plus the fact that they haven't made any big moves. All they've done is resign their own aging superstars.

The team with the best pitching and fewest injuries will win the World Series. I hope it is the Yankees.

Simply put, no. I believe they would be lucky to make the wild card.
If I had to pick a favorite, I would choose the Boston Red Sox.
Already the rotation looks better than it did on opening day 2007, just having Lester, instead of Tavarez. If they start the season with Ellsbury in center field, that also is an upgrade.
If they happen to trade for Santana, that would just make them unbeatable. Santana is more of a luxury for them than a necessity.
I see the A.L. finishing like this
East: Red Sox
Central: Indians
West :Angels
Wild card: Tigers
I do not have a prediction for the National league yet, but I do NOT see a World Series winner in the NL.
World series champion: Red Sox.

Not this year James. They do have a lot of talent and will be there till the end, but I look for it to come down to either Detroit or Boston. Can you imagine if the Tigers could also pick up Santana--wow!!!

I highly doubt it. Unless they are able to trade for Johan Santana they just don't have the pitching to compete with the Red Sox and Tigers. They may not even make the playoffs next year if the Indians and Angels have good seasons.
