The Greenhouse Effect has nothing to do with maintaining the Earth's atmosphere, it keeps the planet warm by trapping outgoing radiation. The Earth's atmosphere is maintained by the gravitational pull of the Earth and by the magnetic shielding of the magnetosphere preventing solar radiation from stripping away the outer layers (of the atmosphere).

that greenhouse effect is the process by witch the carbon dioxide in earths atmosphere keeps in most of the heat that the earth tries to reflect back inot space this is what keeps the earth warm enough for life to exist
