Yes, water in the radiator can freeze and at that point you have a $4000 repair bill. Make sure you take your vehicle down and have it tuned up for winter weather.

Chances are that the level sensor inside your coolant reservoir is showing you that the level is low. When the car warms up a little and the thermostat has opened, the coolant level rises just a wee bit and turns off your sensor. Since your car is a 2000 model, and if you have never changed your coolant before, this is a good time to take care of business and change your coolant. Insist that only genuine VW coolant is used during this procedure to prevent future trouble with your cooling system. The "green" stuff will only cause damage to your plastic parts, head, and head gasket. Chances are, because this is probably the first ime that your coolant is changed, no flushing of the cooling system will be necessary, but again, insist that only genuine VW (autobahn) coolant is used. Believe me!

If it has a battery within the key, that drop may have unshook the power from it. My first instinct is to replace the battery in the key. But go to dealership and tell them your woes and they may have another solution(as I could be out in left field picking Shamrocks instead of playing baseball). . Orr, you are in the wrong car.
