No "many" African societies do not. This practice is limited to a small percentage of the cultures in Africa. Please see the link below for a map. You may want to compare population density maps available online to this one to get a better idea of the scope.
I would submit that we do not have a comparable practice in terms of culturally required mutilation but we certainly do have a lot of optional mutilations available as well as non-mutilating ways to cause pain (high heels come immediately to mind).

Well, something in the neighborhood of 58% of men born in America have their genitals mutilated through circumcision even now... between 77-98% of them have had it done altogether (link 1). Only about a tenth of one percent of women in America are mutilated in this way... and that includes all the women who have had it done in the past not just the ones who are still having the procedure done upon them (link 2). So in this respect I'd say women get off pretty easy.
