If you want to use a site, try: http://www.marktplaats.nl/
Many towns have a recycled furniture shop, ask around or contact the nearest tourist information office (VVV)
If you want to buy new, Leen Bakker is cheap but the furniture is reasonable.
IKEA has dirt cheap, but the better furniture is also more expensive.
Gamma and Praxis have some furniture and much else you need when you have to decorate a house (as does Leen Bakker.)

In groceries, Aldi and Lidl are the cheapest supermarkets.
For general household items, I like the chain Action, again dirt cheap but acceptable quality.

Some people will go to Beverwijk, the Bazaar:
http://www.debazaar.nl/ It is not too far away for you, but I have never seen the need to go there and I live even nearer to it.

Welcome in my country.

PS: I found the recycling-shop address for Haarlemmermeer:
http://www.kringloophaarlemmermeer.nl/kringloopwinkel.htm
Stichting Sociaal Pakhuis - Kringloop Haarlemmermeer
Hanepoel 86
2136 NM Zwaanshoek

PS: I forgot to mention the chain Kwantum, also a lot of cheap things for decorating and furnishing the house.
There are also several stores which specialize in beds and bedding, and furniture, just see the advertisements you get into your letterbox. Mostly the local ones are sure to give you a leaflet each week.

And Leen Bakker has very cheap, poor quality things, but also a lot that looks pretty enough and will last till you have saved enough to buy more expensive things.
I own several things they sold, and after a few years light usage they still look and sit as new, and most people do not believe me when I tell where I bought them.

Lol, yeah, that'll work! Hi, I'm Jim, I just moved in next door, could you please tell me when you'll be putting your trash out next cause I want to go through it for any items I could use... You'll be very popular real fast!

Yes, some Dutch people go through other people's trash but it's definitely NOT a common thing to do in the Netherlands and I'm very sure that MOST dutch people definitely do NOT go through other people trash to see if there's anything good in it...

If you don't mind second hand furniture you could go to a recycling store, they usually do have good stuff there for very very little money...

If you want it fresh and new, Leen Bakker is very cheap but the stuff there looks absolutely horrible (as far as I know, only been inside once but I pass one every now and then)... I like Ikea myself, but it's more expensive than Leen Bakker, that's true...

There's a bunch of Dutch supermarket chains that have been doing their price war thingie for a few years but it seems to be over now... Albert Heijn won, Konmar is out of business, so Albert Heijn again rules supreme as the King of Dutch Supermarkets... Not the cheapest though, but they have some very nice ready-to-eat or almost-ready-to-eat products, like salads and meals and such and their freshly squeezed juices are the best... Also many biological products...

If you're looking for the cheapest you'll probably end up going to German supermarkets like Lidl...

don't wanna sound too cheezy but we have what we call " big trash day" here once a month, loads of people get rid of there furniture and stuff on that day and leave outside for the trash pick up to come and get it, but lots of us cheap dutch people go around and look for stuff to take home, fix up and use, my house is decorated with nice stuff from the streets, just fix it up and it looks as good as new and it's free!!!!!!!!!!! just ask your neighbour about it, in dutch it's called "grofvuil"
you wanna get to know your neighbours anyway so it's a good way to ask them also about second hand stores in the neighbourhood for you to go buy some good stuff. they can also tell you if they have some good cheap supermarkets around. my favorite store to buy just about anything for your house for cheap is action, not sure if they have one there, you can get your towels and stuff like that for cheap there and also your keathen stuff, lidl and aldi are cheap supermarkets.expensive but good quality in my opinion with food is Albert Heijn.

well good luck and enjoy your living here in holland

Ebay :) But for groceries and the like you're going to have to try dollar stores, or just bargain shop at your local grocery.

eBay has about 740 of them to choose from. Good luck.
