It is theoretically possible but highly unlikely. It would require the teams in their division to split most of their games with each other with a lot of overtime games for the additional point. It would require one these same teams to do very well outside their division. The other divisions in the conference would need one dominant team that won most of its games in the division and the other 2 divisions in the conference would have to do poorly in the games against the other conference.
I'm not a gambler, or a winning one at least, but I would say there is just has much chance of all 5 teams in a division winning the cup in consecutive years....

It hasn't happened, but it could. The teams would not have to split their games with each other, as was suggested - they just have to do well enough outside the division.
All the Central Division teams are currently over .500 - I think it would be interesting if they all got in. There is, however, a lot of hockey to go.

1) No, it has never happened
2) Yes, it can theoretically happen.
Each team plays 32 games against their own division and 48 games (96 points) outside their division.
By nature of every game having a winner and a loser, teams play 0.500 within their division (forget for a moment that their COULD BE an extra point for an OT/SO loss).
So, each team wins all their home games in their divisional games
They all have 32 points
If these teams win ALL their remaining games (96 points) they will each 128 points, which theoretically would get them into the playoffs

In 93-94, and 94-95, five out of six teams in the Western conference Central division made it. Det, Tor, Dal, StL., and CHI. Winnipeg was the only team not to get in. 3 teams for the Pacific got in, for a total of 8. In 95-96, Winnipeg replace Dallas. But not in the current configuration of divisions.

No, it hasn't happened. I think the same question was asked a while ago, and it was agreed that four was the most.

I don't think it has happened in the NHL. I'm pretty sure it happened in the NBA a couple of years back.
