Definitely The Stand! And when you get to the first appearance of Randall Flagg, the Walkin' Dude, stop and read "Hawthorne's "Young Goodman Brown." You'll see why.

I haven't read The Stand, but I am currently reading Armageddon's Children, and I am enjoying it. In my opinion, Terry Brooks is a better writer than Stephen King.

I have read The Stand and enjoyed it; I have not read Armageddon's Children so can't offer an opinion there. I would go with Armageddon's Children if I had read neither because I enjoy Stephen King but he does write a little wordy at times. Well researched it a little and would read The Stand since Armageddon's Children is the first of a trilogy. I prefer to read series closer together and going from it to The Stand might confuse me; probably not you but would me.

I've never read Armageddon's Children so I can't reallly help you with that but I am a King fan. The Stand is excellent. I even liked the movie though the book and movie seemed a little too "convenient" ending wise. Still, it was marvelous and not just because I had a crush on Molly Ringwald when I was younger either.

I agree that Stephen King and Terry Brooks are in different leagues, but in the sense that SK is a much better writer. Kings writes better characters, dialogs and more original plots.

To each his own, I guess. Any way, back to the original question I'd choose th Stand

Terry Broooks is an awsome writer and I would suggest that if you want a really great reading experience that you try him first. Although you may then turn around and find yourself disapointed by Stephen King. I do respect both writer's but find them to both be in diferent leagues. Stephen King sells to the masses, Terry Brooks is respected by all in the Sci-Fi community. Just my opinion.

I always tend to keep the best 'till last, so would read "The Stand" first. They are both terrific books, but I feel that Terry Brooks is slightly the better.

before reading the AC by Terry Brooks you might want to go back and read his Demon Triology where AC begins.
