It's not allowed, not even in first class. My boss flies in first all the time, and he can't send or receive any signals through his laptop, cellphone or blackberry while he's in the air.

It might be technically possible in some places, but considering you're moving at such a high rate of speed, you'd likely end up with an erratic signal, if you had any at all. There aren't a lot of satellites that broadcast over the ocean, and certainly, there are no cell towers out there.

They do not permit most wireless signals as these can endanger the aircraft by interfering with the navigation equipment. ALL wireless equipment should be turned off, and there are serious jail sentences for not doing so.
