I pass an extension right by the bottom corner of the door. The weather stripping usually gives enough space for the cord to fit. Test first an unplugged cord to see if it fits without pinching. If it does, secure it into place with some tape.

We have a plug outside and most apartments and houses do, so take a look around. But last year I didn't have one and wanted to put lights up. I ended up putting the lights on the *inside* of the house. I framed the windows at the street side so people could see them from outside. Then they could be plugged in inside and I wouldn't have to drill a whole where I wasn't allowed to (it was a rental).

You can buy battery packs but I find they don't last very long. You can also buy a solar pack so they recharge during the day, but these come with a pretty hefty price tag, so it would depend on your budget.

Look for an outside outlet or if you must use the window you could put a bar in the window diagonally to bar it from being opened. That is what we did because there was no outside outlet only an outside phone jack. Stupid huh.

you can either drill the hole so the flex fits through the re-wire the plug once its inside - I do this with mine and then its there for every year, its easy to plug up a small hole like that after, also some of my downstairs ones actually fit under my front door and plugs into the hallway. you can buy outdoor 'extensions' which consists of a panel of sockets usually 2 - 4 of them, only 1 plug needs to go inside and the rest plug into this.

If you own the house, get an electrician to install receptacles outside. Once you have them, you'll use them often. If you do run an extension cord into the house, make sure to plug it into a GFCI power strip for safety's sake.

Well realy it comes down to one thing....do you want to drill through a wall?

If the answer is no then a battery pack is the only solution however if its a house you stay in their will normally be some form of electrical outlet round the back of your house or in your garage / shed.

hope this helps
