When I lived in England, I am English, for my first 51 years I met very few black or Latin people because relatively few lived in my area. For the last 12 1/2 years I have lived in Thailand and got to know a lot of Thai people. For the past 1 1/2 years I have been married to a Thai lady and gone to live in a village in Northeastern Thailand. There is only one other Englishman within about 10 Kilometres of me and he is here for only 2 months of the year. Your question is racist because you are asking people to tell you their preferences based on race and colour. When it comes down to it White, Black, Latin and Asian people all want the same thing. To get on with their lives, feed their families and to have a little happiness. How can one show a preference when everybody is the same, unless it is based on prejudice?

I think that having black genes physically change your characteristics, because most black genes are stronger than that of white, latin, asian, etc. Black genes are normally the more dominate gene.
If you're mixed with white and latin... can you really tell whether your either, however if you're mixed with white/latin mother, but black father you will be able to tell.
If I have a black mother and white father, I'm still going to come out looking mixed, not particularly all white.
look up victoria rowell, she has a daughter by her first husband, who was white... her daughter looks more white than black, but... you can tell she has black in her, why---the dominate gene.

Your friend has the right to be proud of both her black and latin heritage. As for the others, she should tell them that to deny one race over the other would be denying one parent over the other.
Tell your friend to stand tall and be proud. Her small minded relatives need to grow up. There is beauty in all races. Your friend is indeed lucky she has a double dose of beauty.

When someone is two races and one is black often times the black features are dominate. I think that is why people probably call her black when she is also part latin....the latin features aren't as noticeable. As far as black people getting offended when she tells them she is part latin....you got me! I don't know what their problem is!

first, I believe strongly in race as a construct, i.e. race resulted from racism and not the reverse as conventional wisdom holds.
Consider that race operates on a sliding scale and that "white" for example in Colombia is different from "white" in the US. Consider also that racial distinctions have evolved (whiteness has expanded over the last 200 years)
Finally, Black and Latin are not mutually exclusive, there are plenty of people who identify as both throughout Latin and South America and, the greater world.

i don't think she should have to decide. she should be proud of who she is. it's too bad people put such an importance on race. you wouldn't see a black cat being offended by a white cat would you? mixed races to me are a blessing as that means there is two less RACISTS IN THE WORLD

Most people go with what they look like. Lots of black/latino people embrace both cultures. There really isn't anything written that says that you have to choose a side. And there is nothing wrong with being proud of who you are.

This makes me mad
I am a mom of interracial kids.
I tell them that they are "other" and I get very upset when people try to tell them they are one race or the other. They are members of the human race!
I was very hurt to overhear my daughter brag she could "pass" for being the other race (not mine) Yes, this is cruel and hurtful to mom. Why can't people just give up all of this stereotyping and race s h i t?????
Sorry, you hit a sore spot, LOL

The Color of your skin is based on three pigments:
melanin
hemoglobin
carotene
depending on which of the above three is in a larger quanity compared to the others depends on your skin color! Therefore you are no different than any other racial group by your skin color, only the level of acceptance and ethnicity! All skin types have these three pigments they just aren't as expressed.
