Hey Guyz, I've been pondering bout this statement - If you were given a choice between these specs for your computer, which will you choose? Please give valid reasons for your answers.
You can have either:

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160 (1.8 Ghz) with 2 GB of RAM

or

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 (3.0 Ghz) with 512 MB of RAM

Which will you choose?
I know both processor and RAM are important but in this case, which is a better choice?

I would probably start with more RAM, as the low amount of memory will really cause the system to drag. With the limited amount of memory the computer will have to use the hard drive as virtual memory, and then memory swapping occurs. This can really slow down the performance of the computer.

The good thing is that memory is not that expensive. So you could upgrade the latter one. But if you HAD to go with one or the other (without any upgrades) I would recommend the first option.

Assuming I'd never have dough to upgrade, I'd go with the big RAM. The only reason you'd ever need more than a dual 1.8 processor is if you plan on doing extensive video editing.

Go with the QX and 512 of ram. This will be a much much faster.

If you are rendering movies and such, then you will max out the ram. I would suggest making a ram upgrade with the QX system in your very near future.

I would go with the latter and then upgrade the memory on it...

processing power is better than the first but memory really needs to be upped...

With this setup even though the latter is faster they would perform the same cause of the memory issue...
but with an upgrade the latter system would dominate the first..

Agreed, the Dual Core with 2GB of RAM will out perform the RAM bound 512MB option.

And the more RAM the better in any option.

Processor first....upgrade the Ram later.

I would go with more RAM. I doubled the RAM on my desktop computer and got greater speed with the same processor. Having lots of RAM helps programs load and run faster.

3.0 and then upgrade the RAM. Processors cost more than RAM.
