I am having my gallbladder surgery in a few days. I need to know if anyone has gone thru this surgery recently and what did you feel afterwards and how do I heal from this? I have never had surgery and am scared to death.

you will be fine, I was home cleaning my house 3 days after the surgery. I have had everthing out that can come out and still be alive, gallbladder was the easiest of all my surgeries. Don't recomend tonsils at 32 though, that was rough. Seriously you will be fine, just rest and take your pain pills on time, don't say well I don't hurt to bad I will wait, if your pill has to play catch up the pain is much worse. Get well soon.

I had gallbladder surgery when I was 16. Two days after surgery, I was in much less pain than I had been for the month before the surgery. The scars are extremely small, a 3 inch "smile" just under my belly button and a inch long slit closer to my ribcage. I used mederma on the scars after about 3 months after my surgery, and they are practically invisible--my boyfriend didn't notice them for weeks. I went home the next day after the surgery-it was an option as I was a minor and my family lived over an hour from the hospital. I seriously think I only took prescription painkillers on the day of the surgery and the next day. Jeans did not feel too comfortable until after the incision had healed, but I would place a thick gauze pad over it and was able to dress normally. For about 3 weeks, I would have "odd" sensations from different movements, but no real pain. I went back to school within a week of the surgery with no problems.

One tip--in the hospital when they tell you to cough deeply after surgery, grab a bed pillow or ask the nurse for one to hold against your stomach while you cough for them. It REALLY helps the pain from the coughing.

I have not had that type of surgery, but I has two other surgeries, on eto take out my kidney, and a back surgery. I totally understand that you are feeling scared and nervous, and the best thing to remember, is that you are totally konked out for the whole thing. They make you really comfortable before they put you under, and the next thing you know, you are awake, and it is done! Im not sure what the healing will be like for you, but I find that when it husrts, just to think that every dy you will fell a little bit better, and before you know it you will be totally healed! Good Luck :)

nothing really to be afraid of. Most gall bladder removals are now done with a laparascope meaning they make three or four small incisions and do the procedure via a tube with a camera on it and a tube or two with instruments. In other words, it is no longer a major abdominal surgery where they slice you wide open. Most people go home the day of surgery and spend maybe a week recovering from it. Pain is minimized and oral pain meds will handle any post operative pain you may have. It really is not something to be afraid of.

I was born with a heart problem then developed scoliosis and had five. three heart two back and the second was because they screwed up the first. I was NEVER able to relax until I woke up after but I can tell you the best thing is to just deal with it and let it happen. i did read my favorite books and now i assume you can watch movies in the hospital so play young frankenstein and your favorite comedies. laughter IS the best medicine. it DOES help! PEACEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I KNOW HOW YOU FEELOOOOOOOOOOO

dont let people make you feel guilty over being afraid or miserable. this is about YOU.I HATED having to be brave for everyone else and them acting like I was already done with. I WANTED to laugh my *** of!:-)
