There's no hidden meaning: throw an apple at your doctor every day and he'll think twice about coming anywhere near you.

[Note: I've found it to be more effective than a restraining order.]

It means that eating more fruit will keep you healthy. Which is complete BS because if you get cancer, aids, or break a bone while doing a back flip off of the soda machine unto a bunch of shopping carts you'll have to see the dr. And the apple wouldn't do squat.

what kind of apple? you mean metaphorically or literally?

well, it means that an apple fruit a day will keep us well sustained with the vitamins the body needs to keep it healthy- in that manner, if we are healthy, we dont need to keep checking in at the Doctor's office. Basically, yeah, the apple is driving the doctor away.

the same goes through with the other apple.... of the eye... it supports our mental balance and stamina, you know. keeps us mentally healthy and H A P P Y...yabada bada...

Literally, the apple is a very healthy food.
The bigger picture would be that eating right is the key to a healthy life.

Apples contain loads of fiber, vitamins, and cancer-preventing antioxidants, but most of them also contain up to four pesticides - even after they've been washed. Translation: Just one apple exceeds daily recommended limits on bug-spray consumption.
