To all the moms/preggos =]...I asked this question in another section but I barely got any answers. What steps did you have to take after you got married to make sure your new last name was in the system and given to your employer, the post office, etc.? thank you so much for any answer you can give.

The town office can supply a form to fill out for your SSN. You put in a copy (real copy) of your marriage certificate and mail in the form. They send it back to you with a new SS card (same number, of course) with your new name on it. You will also need to go to DMV to get your license switched over. The bank and your employer will also need to be notified. For the first year it's a good idea for you to carry a copy of your marriage certificate in your purse, as you'll be needing it a lot!

For everything else I just wrote, "Please note name change______" on things like bills, etc...and eventually it all switched over.

Not too complicated, just a hassle.

Social Security, passport, bank accounts, credit cards, investments, your utility bills, university information, driver's license, employer, insurance--also keep in mind that additions or changes might need to be made for some of your husband's stuff, too, like with his employer, add you as a beneficiary, w-4 or other tax stuff, etc..... even at the county clerk's office, there's no form that declares your new name (only ssn has that) (at least not on my marriage paperwork), you just start using it. I didn't really start initiating these changes until after I had a certified copy of my marriage cert. and my new social security card. Making the changes online or phone calls was easy.
Congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy!

Well I only remember having to have proof for 3 things: Soc Sec, DMV, and work. Do the SS first because that is the legal one then the others when you have time. Everything else I just called and asked them to change it. They asked me some security questions, not proof. In fact, I have been married for over 3 years and I just yesterday changed (hopefully) one of my credit cards. All my others got changed but they kept sending me this one particular card with my maiden name.
Oh, and so you know...you will probably have to call on each individual thing. Like I have 3 checking accounts and 2 credit cards with my bank. Could I get them all changed with one phone call? Nope. You have to talk to the different departments.

go to the post office, and they give you paperwork for the social security people. You also have to go to the DMV or secretary of state and get that part of your drivers licence changed. It was a ton of running around, but start at the main city post office. You should call to find out which is the right one near you first.

Go change your name at the social security office, that will make it official. Then got to the DMV, post office, credit cards and tell your employer you got married and they will get you the forms. Congratulations!!

You need to change your driver's licence and social security card to ensure its in the govnernments system - you'll need a certified copy or the actual marriage licence to do this. You need to give it to your employer yourself, through HR. You can update your mailing information by filing out the "change of address/moving" card at the postoffice.

first I went to the DMV and got my license changed. then I went to the bank. then I went to the social security office which only took like 2 minutes. After that, whenever I paid a bill, I sent a photo copy of my ID with my payment and a note asking them to change my name.

Take your marriage license to the DMV to get a new driver's license, then take your new driver's ID to the Social Security place to get it changed on your SS #, then take your new license and marriage license to your banks, employer, etc.
