You might really LOVE a book by Jonathan Hull, "Losing Julia."

It's set in a retirement home, the battlefields and hospitals of WWI, and everywhere else in between. There are some marvelous characters in the nurses and doctors in this book.

It's a romance, a memoir, a war story, and a reflection on growing old. It's about friends, loves and much more. And the writing will sweep you away.

Although not precisely the kind of story you asked for, it's on the fringe, and something you'll share with others!
