Probably the fact that you watch a movie for a couple of hours and it's done. You participate actively in video games for an extended period of time.

Either way, there has to be a desensitization process going on that creates a numbness to violence in a certain small percentage of people. Without that outside stimulus, it might be that certain personality traits would never manifest externally. With the additional stimulus, we get Virginia Tech, Colorado, Omaha, etc.
