Let's see now Golfer16. You have Quebec City, Winnipeg, and Hamilton. Those three cities, in order, are the seventh, eighth, and ninth largest cities in Canada

hockey4ever, yes I know that the top six are the ones that have teams in the NHL but I believe both Winnipeg and Hamilton deserve better than having AHL teams.

J S, Mississauga is a suburb of Toronto so obviously its population is very large due to its close proximity to Toronto. I live in Michigan and even I know that.

Of course they do, but it comes down to economics(as usual) Canada has 33 million + residents; the USA over 302 million. The league will go where the people and TV money is, and right now, it's the US. Until Bettman is replaced or trips and falls on his ego, the expansion into US cities where hockey doesn't belong will continue.

No they don't. The cities people are suggesting had teams and lost them. BTW Hartford is in Connecticut not Canada for the ones that suggested giving them another team.

Winnipeg had the Jets who moved to Phoenix. Sure people supported the team but the arena was too small and the corporate support wasn't there. Oddly enough they built a new and smaller arena.

Quebec City had the Nordics who moved to Denver. Same problem as Winnipeg.

Hartford had the Whalers who moved to somewhere in the Carolina's. They got no support from anyone.

The only one that could be questioned and probably was a poor move was the Jets. What makes people think that Hamilton which is similar in size to Quebec City and Winnipeg would somehow work out better? On top of that its close to Buffalo and Toronto. Neither team if given a say is going to approve most likely. Its also a poorly supported AHL team.

I say yes... Canada definitely deserves to have more than 6 teams. Especially now that there is a salary cap and smaller market Canadian cities could be more competitive. Other cities deserving of a shot:

1. Winnipeg
2. Quebec City
3. Halifax
4. London, Ontario.

Sorry, but I think Hamilton is too close to Toronto and Buffalo and there will be nothing but legal battles and/or Buffalo will lose it's team. London is outside the radius of Toronto, Buffalo and Detroit.

I don't think deserve has anything to do with it. If someone is rich enough and has the patience to jump through the hoops then they can have their NHL team were they want it. Look at guys like Wang and Melnyk, what do they care if their teams are profitable or not? If Ballsile has a long term program of lobbying and spreads the dough around he can have his team in Hamilton or London.

Move Columbus, Florida, Phoenix and Washington to Winnipeg, Quebec, Hartford and Hamilton. The NHL doesn't need to expand, just rearrange from some flat markets.

Sure, once they get cities that can support them and the team can be profitable. Right now the support will be there, but for some reason team owners don't want to do business there.

Yes, and you can thank Bettman for ruining hockey and puting teams in the south! Bring back Winnipeg, Quebec, Hartford, etc.

Of course we deserve more...after all it is OUR game but we just can't compete with the salaries nowadays to keep a team in some cities. You also have to have the fan base willing to support the team in whatever city they are in.The ones we have now support their teams tremendously which is why they're still around.GO Flames Go !!

Yeah, but the economy wouldn't allow it. There's too much fluctuation in the currency conversion (thank you, Bush, you monkey).

If they can support the teams they deserve them.
