What happened, the two of you get busted for trying to rip off your local Sally Ann? My American Legion and VFW posts both support our local Sally Ann (Salvation Army Thrift Store) because it is a needed service in our community. We think more folks ought to donate other used but serviceable items besides old clothes and in fact, we encourage same. Recycle good stuff, don't just throw it out.
No, it isn't your grand Niemann Marcus or Abercrombie and Fitch - but a lot of needful people depend on their local thrift store. If you didn't have your nose so out of joint, you'd see actual human beings in those stores...

Pro. One mans garbage is another mans treasure. We all have different standards or uses for items and some have an artistic application for the item. or something. If I had a set of very expensive dishes for example and one got broken, it would be a thrift store I would look for a replacement as those dishes are very old and not replaceable(new replacement not possible) and without the broken one it is an incomplete set and worth only half.
This is a place where you could buy an Angora sweater inexpensively and then find out whether you are allegic to it or not. Or pure silk scarves.
True antiques, even things you may have broken and sitting in the garage because you need one little part(which is no longer made,,,and you find its brother there). In the true thrift stores, items are priced way less, and monies go to pay for the light and heat for the building - the staff are basically volunteer, and the monies earned most often go to the hospitals for new equipment purchases(70% and higher). Whereas there are other so called thrift stores who are classified as such as they do make donations to worthwhile causes(but the donations can be as little as 1% of their income. The rest go to trucks, overhead, well paid staff, and all the goods for the store are donated free to the store(washed and cleaned). It is more of a used items store that snuck under the legal wire of being classified as a trift store because of the donation loophole so enjoys the tax benefits.

Pro...my friend Jonathan only shops at thrift stores. My sister in law likes designing her own style and often shops there as well. I personally have never bought clothing there but if I need something like a well worn shoulder bag I can almost always find exactly what I'm looking for.

I think thrift stores are great especially after finding a 1.5 carat diamond ring for 50 dollars. Many people who donate to thrift stores do not know what kind of treasure they have!

Pro.....I love thrift stores!! But that was the way I was raised, my parents didn't have alot of money with 5 kids. My mom always shopped at second hand stores.....Now I have a hard time buying anything full price, even if I have the money!! My bf has a hard time buying anything for me if I am with him, I always say I don't need it!

I love thrift stores, both for the savings and the recycling. I also use the local Cheapcycle for buying and selling at good prices.

i don't shop at thrift stores very often, but i don't see anything wrong with them. they don't cause any problems, and it's an easy way to get rid of things you don't want anymore and earn a little bit of money for it. they're also fun to go through sometimes, just to see all the stuff that other people bring in. and sometimes you even find something that you like, and the prices aren't outrageous.
