Yayyyy!!!!!! Jake Peavy is going to stay a Padre until 2012!!! Leaving an option for 2013 as well!!! Yayyy!!! I am so excited about this!!!To me, this just shows that he is commited to staying a Padre which brings a smile to my face [: This definitley makes my day!!! With his pitching, hopefully he could help take us to the Playoffs in 08!!! What are your thoughts about this? For me, this is exciting!!!

First, Peavy's extension is through 2012, not 2010. And he has has $59 mil coming to him without the $22 mil option in 2013. Second, with a full no trade you would have to convince him why coming to NY is a good idea - he's go a big enough contract that trying to throw more money would be virtually worthless. Third - why would the Padres bite on that drek? If you were running the Padres, would you? Fourth, with new ownership soon to be in place, the need for the divorce fire sale has been removed. It's a nice dream ...but that's all it is.

it's good to see a quality player stay with a team instead of goign for big FA bucks.
especially for a pitcher in SD - he'll never have a better scenario. Weak hitting NL, best pitcher's park in the modern era. He will put up hall-of-fame numbers if he stays there.

We mised the playoffs by one game without any hitting, locking up Jake Peavy should have been our number one priority, apparently it was, now a couple of hitters and we will be looking good.

good for the padres but not good for jake since the padres will never put a good team on the field to win it all

Congrats... As a Reds fan I obviously wish we had him, but I gotta say... Peavy is a phenomenal pitcher and a great story.

This is awesome but frickin Fukudome has signed with the Cubs so we still need some talented outfielders.
