Why is it that pregnancy tests can only detect that your pregnant the day of your missed period and not when you actually become pregnant? Does it take your hormones a while to adjust the pregnancy to show up on the test. I have always been curious about this.

Not true! I tested 7 days before my expected period with a dollar tree test at that, and still got a + result! Everyone is different!!!!

There are those tests that detect up to five days before a missed period. I didn't wait until I missed my period. I took the cheapest test I could find, and it was a regular test, took it before my period was due and got a pregnancy test at only 3 weeks pregnant.

Pregnancy hormones don't start until the egg is implanted which takes about week after ovulation. Then as the zygote grows hormones increase. HPT can only detect hormones when thye get to a certain level, but they are working on making them more sensitive.

in the beginning it's too soon for the hormones to get to a point where they are detectable in your urine. 2 weeks after fertilization human chorionic gonadotropin (the hormone pregnancy tests look for) are high enough for u to pee on a stick and boom! lol

The hormone is produced more and more every day, and the tests can only measure it once there is a certain amount in your system.

the hormones have to rise and build up. it takes about a week after the egg and sperm meet. the egg has to implant and then the hormones rise causing signs to start and a missed period

because the hormone that is picked up on the test has to rise enough during the progressing pregnancy to be picked up on the test, if your levels are to low the test will not pick them up, as they increase the test then picks them up.
