My husband and I got married in a courthouse. We applied & received our marriage license and got married all on the same day. I live in Georgia. We did not have to make an appointment, however, we came in on a Friday afternoon and almost didn't get to get married because the application process takes some time. Some states require you have an appointment made.
I think the license cost was around $50, and it didn't cost anything to get married. You and your husband will each need to bring your driver's license or state issued ID and your birth certificates.
A judge married us in his chambers. We weren't the only couple in there. The whole thing only tok about 10-15 minutes. You will each exachange vows and rings. It's just like what you see at a real wedding. We did not have to have a witness, however, some states require you to have at least 1.
We got married this past July and have a baby on the way due next July! Congrats on your marriage and your baby & Good luck!

I had a court marriage because my hubby is in the militray and just got back from overseas, so in order for me to move in with him we had to get married...Which we already planned.
How much does a marriage license cost? We paid about $50, but it prob. varies by state. We got married in Ohio.
Will we be getting married by a judge? Yes
How many days in advance do you need your license before you get married or is it possible to get married the same day you get it? Once you get your liscense it is valid for 90 days. They will set you up for an appointment, depending on how big the city is depends on the wait. At first we had to wait 3 months almost, but once we told them it was a military thing they got us in there as soon as possible...which was an hour later.
How long does the ceremony last? I would say it was for about 10-15 minutes, very short.
What all does the ceremony consist of? Pretty much the same as if you were to have your own wedding. He will have you repeat the vows after him and then exchange rings and kiss. Quite simple
Can vows be exchange? That would prob. be up to the judge. I would check to be on the safe side.
Is it mandatory for you to have witnesses there? We didn't have a witness because the judge was it, but that was in Ohio. It would be a good idea to check.
How many days in advance does it need to be scheduled? It all depends on the city
If anyone has experienced this, then what other things did you do this day to make it more special? We didn't really have time to make it special, but I would recommend you bring a camera or cam-corder...I wish we could have, but it was on such a short notice.
Do you have to bring in a copy of your id, birth certificate, bill for proof of address or anything medical for verification? In order to get your liscense you will need a birth certificate, social security card and current picture ID.
The only other thing I would reccommend is to bring change to pay for parking, because at most court houses you are paying the machines on the side of the road (cant remeber what they are called, lol)
I had a blast at mine and I wish it would have lasted longer. I had to go to work like 2 hours afterward too. Have fun!

It's different from state to state. In my case, it cost about $30 for the license, and it was first-come first-serve for the ceremony. We just showed up near the end of the lunch hour, on the day we'd picked, and ended up being the first ones that afternoon. There wasn't a long wait.
I was a witness for a friend's marriage in New York City, though, and it was a mob scene. You actually had to take a number. :D
So I've been involved in two civil ceremonies. There are vows, but not as elaborate or lengthy as you'd hear in church. If you want to add anything in of your own, in the way of vows, I'm sure most places would accomodate a reasonably brief addition. New York City, probably not. You should call or visit your county courthouse and ask.
Either take your "bridal party" out to a nice breakfast first, or out to lunch or dinner afterward. Get yourself a little bouquet, and make sure your witnesses take pictures. I only have four. :(

It does depend on your state. But here are some of the things I found out from California when I got married
License was 55, it was extra to have it signed there
you don't get a judge, you actually just get a justice of the peace, so no cool robe
you can do it the same day you get your license
the ceremony depends on what you want, they might just make you do the vows though
Vows have to be exchanged, because that's what they're signing, that you swore to be married (like a notary)
Witnesses are mandatory, but you don't need to know your witness
I think that to make it more special, where a dress, and go out to dinner afterwards!!!
You need I think two forms of valid ID

My sister and BIL had a courthouse marriage (2nd marriage for both). They did have a judge, but in many places it is a Justice of the Peace. It was a rural county, in MN, so their experience was maybe different than that in a city. The secretary and a lawyer who was just around were their witnesses.
They needed their IDs and Social Security number as well as divorce papers to get the license. My state has a 5 day waiting period, so they set up the appointment with the judge (they can help you with that when you get the license). You usually need CASH to get the license.

well since it does vary by state, i can tell u wat my husband and i had to do tho we live in nj.
-yes, it does vary by state
-if u choose to get married by the judge, you can. My husband and I had a priest who was a family friend marry us at home.
-Usually you apply for the license and u have to wait 3 business days for the license. As soon as u have the license, you can get married.
-The ceremony can last as long as u want it to. We wanted it to be short and simple, it honest\ly took about 5 minutes.
-U can choose to say your own vows, but u have to discuss that with whoever is marrying u before.
-yes u need to have 2 witnesses over the age of 18 for the ceremony. and u need 1 witness to go with u to apply for the license.
-U need to bring proof of address, ur ss card, ur birth certificate, and any prooof of divorce or death if u have been married before and they passed or u split up.
-U can make make it as special as u want it to be. I reccomend writing a little something for each other to personalize the day.
good luck and god bless!

this may help some of your questions, but contact your local county courthouse for information. you can even go there to get the information if you want to. it varies in each state how it is done. but i was married by a deputy of the court and not a judge. good luck with the baby!!

Case pushed aside. The Officer did not document a fact, and it seems such as you published bail and are entitled to it back in finished. the subsequent project you desire to do is pass to the courtroom submitting branch and tutor them copies of this paper artwork. which would be certain that is es-sponged out of your checklist for destiny applications. merely ask them to be certain it is documented on your checklist. there isn't any cost for this and you desire verification in writing. superb desires.
