Am I the only person that gets bothered when people say Xmas instead of Christmas? I mean seriously what exactly are people celebrating when they celebrate "xmas" just a time of year where people get presents? I think people are forgeting the reason that we have this holiday. Christ is the reason for the seasn, and I wish people would realize this and stop saying Xmas. I'm sorry it just annoys me. Does this annoy you too? And if you're not a christian and you celebrate Christmas, why do you do that? explain please.

Yeah, I really hate that. My grandmother says that to say 'xmas' is sacreligious. I think Christmas is more than just recieving gifts or getting yours before the other guy gets his. It's about spending time with the people who love and care about you and celbraring the birth of Christ. Merry Christmas!

The X in Xmas is actually a representation of Christ and comes from the Greek letter Chi, which looks similar to the Roman X. Xmas has been used since the 1500s, a time when Christmas was even more of a religious holiday than it is today. Chi, by the way, is the first letter in Christ name in the Greek version of the New Testament. No one is taking Christ out of Christmas when they use the abbreviation Xmas.

Now, how do I typically say and spell Christmas? I only use Xmas when I'm having to explain to folks that it is not taking the Christ out of Christmas on here. Otherwise, I take the time to write out Christmas. But it does not mean someone is not necessarily Christian if they use the abbreviation Xmas.

Does not bother me, either way means the same thing. Merry Christmas or Xmas, have a great day of it.

I don't really get bothered.. but I do prefer Christmas instead of Xmas.. for myself. If you "don't sweat the small stuff" you will be a lot happier in life.. there are a lot more tragedies to worry about instead of the fact that someone wrote Xmas in your Christmas card. Best Wishes!

I am a Christian and celebrate CHRISTmas. Don't put the X in there - that's basically marking out Christ as the real reason for the season.

yes, it annoys me too when people say xmas. The whole point of christmas is to celebrate the birth of christ. When people say xmas, they are forgetting what the true meaning of christmas is and they are disrespecting the lord.

i always say christmas but every now and then may type xmas to shorten it but i'd never verbally say x-mas. christmas is about christ so i don't take that away and it is about celebrating him but i just see xmas written for short. i think typing it's ok but saying it isn't right.

it annoys me too. my mom gets really annoyed too, if i said xmas around her she would give me this big speach about how the "X" in xmas is "crossing out" the CHRIST in christmas. people do that because it takes less time to type out the word christmas. :)

I would never say or type the x version. I think it's disrespectful. As you said, we need to remember the reason for the season.
