That price quote is definitely high and unreasonable for a car of that type. Chevy parts are found at pretty much any auto shop or exhaust place. They have these in stock probably 98% of the time. First you must find out if the catalytic converter is faulty because that is the most expensive part of the exhaust system. Chances are that part is ok being that it is only 6 years old. These go bad after putting years of bad, cheap fuel or defective oxygen sensors. That is another part that is conected to the exhaust system and if not removed correctly or are faulty they must be replaced. Some cars have anywhere from 1 to 4 of these sensors. If your check engine light is not lighting up and giving you a code for oxygen sensors then you should be good. You can always go to Auto zone and get a FREE engine light scan with trouble codes reveled. Reguardless if the converter is faulty they sell aftermarket direct fit parts for a fraction of the cost of the dealer. I would go after market and should cost roughly $300-$400 with the catalytic converter included. As far as the oxygen sensors they are the next pricey parts after the converter. Aftermarket can cost anywhere from $30-$90 each. The labor part is pretty much basic 9/16, 1/2 or 3/4 open wrenches and sockets. Ratchet with extension and universal swivel possibly. WD-40 and hammer, some people use a hacksaw I believe you can do with out it. If the open wrench doesnt work for the oxygen sensor removal the sell a special socket removal tool for that so the the harness atteched to the sensor doesn't brake off. A set of ramps would make it more comfortable underneath the car. Before I forget the intake manifold is the first part of the exhaust that is connected to the engine. If that part is cracked or defective I would suggest a professional do it. That is is you have no mechanical skills what so ever because those bolts tend to brake and may then need to be drilled out with a special tool bit. I hope that this helps you and good luck.

they are ripping you off big time, here where i live from the manifold all the way back including all new exhaust pipe, new catilac convertor and new mufflers all welded together is no more than $300.00, changes are your convertor is still good, so therefore you should only have to replace the pipes and maybe your muffler. you should be able to do it yourself for no more than $200.00, it requires very few tools. a few wrenches,
probably a hacksaw and a hammer would be about all you need. most of it is just put together with muffler clamps and hangers. not a hard job, just a dirty job. hope this helps in some way. good luck.

I've never paid anyone to fix an exhaust. Of course you can fix it yourself. Just go to AutoZone and ask them to order you a new exhaust and any related gaskets. You may need new bolts too since you'll probably break off the existing ones during removal. One day job in the backyard!

It all depends what is wrong with it, if the entire exhaust system is bad then ya its gonna cost that much. being a 4 cylinder car like that it is very easy to replace everything yourself if you have any auto experience at all. if the exhaust is just cracked then you might be able to have a weld shop just weld on it. find out what is wrong with it first then ask the questions.

Here is a link to some sites that offer the whole exhaust as a kit. You would only need some wrenches and screwdrivers (basic tools) to put it on. The kits would be pre-formed to fit the hangars on your vehicle and would be a quick afternoon swap.
To save money on this though...I would just find a reputable muffler shop..1700 is retarded. I wouldn't expect to spend over 500$ for exhaust on the whole car. To find out what is really wrong with the exhaust for yourself, just start it up when it's cold outside and look for steam/leaks coming from the cracks...crawl under the car..look under the hood.....easy
