Major impact. The best are ones that have Platnum or Gold electrodes. Also check cap, wires and points or rotor.

Best I have found are Breu (German very expensive)

Other good brands are Bosch, NGK, Accell (ND),

AC and Motorcraft have cheaper plugs that are OEM style.

I will not use Champion except the Gold for 2 cycle.

You need to provide more information: What kind of car and what year is it??Typically, wires are not needed unless they are misfiring. On German cars, the wires are modular and are fabricated in pieces. You can buy just the spark plug terminal or the distributor terminal or just buy a length of the wire itself. Most auto parts stores carry a variety of manufacturers plugs and have a chart that is used to convert one plug maker with another. For my money, Bosch single-point platinums work the best in almost every application. Now there are iridium Bosch plugs that are supposed to be even better, and provide more (up to 10) more horsepower. Not all plugs burn fuel as cleanly as others. Platinum tips seem to burn the cleanest and provide the best power because they are catalyzing the fuel right in the combustion chamber before it ever gets to the catalytic converter. The interesting thing about the metal platinum is that once it has heated, it tends to cool quickly and is ready to fire again without wasting heat. Plugs made with copper or nickel electrodes don't always fire evenly and typically waste energy, economy, and power.

Questions to address:
What is the age of the car?
When was the last time a tune up was done; rotor, cap, condensor, carb adjustment, fuel injectors, fuel filter, air filter, pvc, oxygen sensor, etc? (of course depends on age of car and recommended action by manufacturer)
What type of driving do you do?
What does the manufacture recommend as the plug of choice in the service book that comes with the car?
What range and gap for the plugs does the book recommend for your driving?
I would think better name brand plugs are better.
If its older, for sure I would use platinum plugs and replace the spark plug wires at 75,000 or when you can see spark flying or misfires.
Get a resistance test if you want to know this question. It seems to me it is easier to replace old wires.
If it is a leaded gasoline car, change the plugs more often or again use platinum plugs.
Go to the brand name garage and see if there was any recalls or service bulletins on you particular vehicle. (usually free information)
Just my thoughts! If you are asking these questions take a class on automotive engines or get a job at a mechanical garage to learn the process first.
My best thought is to get a quote and let the professional bring up the car to performing to its best operating fuel saving and horsepower and ask questions like; why do I need this or that and what does it do?
The money you spend will be saved in gasoline in a very short time unless you are racing!

Yes, spark plugs play a big role in performance and driveablility. There are many type of spark plugs to choose from, i prefer the Champion Double Platnums, but cheaper spark plugs work just as well. To find the right one for your car, remove a plug and write down the number on the base of the plug, or just bring it to the parts store and they can match it for you. As far as wires, your stock wires should do just fine, unless you have a problem with them, but you should have to do them.

The type of plugs and wires should be appropriate to your make and model of the vehicle. My husband is a Honda Master Tech. Been using NGK brand of plugs, in the Honda's for years and years. Also you may want to change the Distributer cap at the same time. Starting clean you would see an improved engine proformance which can add to your milage per tank of gas. Also note, different seasons, regions of where you live as well as the fuel provider will affect your gas milage and vehilcle performance.

Yes, You must use the plugs that have the correct heat rating. Some plugs burn colder and some burn hotter. To make this easier on yourself, don't buy plugs that you don't need!! Its a waste of money.. Your local auto parts store can tell you what plugs you need.. For example. Champion plugs are great for American cars and NGK plugs are great for import cars. Your car manual should tell you what plugs you need. As for the wires, there is no reason to replace them if they aren't damaged or old..
