I mean, why don't people answer the question, and if they can't, move on to another question?

"she's one and she still breastfeeds? oh no no no." Please!

I *cannot* stand it!

It seems as if the only answer for these people is "wean the baby" no matter the problem, no matter the roadblock, it's "wean the baby."

I'm sneezing-- "Wean the baby!"
The baby cries -- "Wean the baby!"
The baby is biting --"Wean the baby!"
The baby is alive - "Wean the baby!"

A bunch of quitters!

Yes, I remember when I was nursing my child and that happened alot. It will always be a personal subject so it is best to refrain from asking people that you are not sure of their feelings on the subject. I asked other ladies that I knew nursed or had before you will get a much better response to your question. Join the La Leche league in your area to meet others that are breastfeeding.
Good luck with you very natural and healthy choice for caring for your child. It was a wonderful bonding experience with my son and I hope you find it the same.

YES! I get it so often, as both my family and my husband's family are very pro-formula and anti-breastfeeding. It gets very frustrating. Anytime anything is wrong, she gets a cold, her stool is runny, she's cranky, etc. they ALWAYS blame the breastfeeding, my mother-in-law likes to say "that infamous breastfeeding, ha!" I took my daughter to the ER recently when she was vomitting to check for dehydration and they suggested giving her small amounts (like sips) of pedialyte and said I should give her formula, why??? I can express milk and give it to her in a bottle too! My cousin always pushes the formula too when I ask her about any baby issues. I don't know why they do it, but I guess women who formula feed get a lot of pressure from people telling them they should be breastfeeding too, so it goes both ways I guess. In a perfect world, people would just answer our dang questions and stop trying to change the way we feed our children!

I totally agree. I am almost 17 weeks pregnant and still nursing my almost 14 month old every 3-4 hours =)

I think the people that answer questions like that are just feeling guilt that they didn't breastfeed or didn't breastfeed longer so telling someone else to stop makes them feel better.

Don't listen to what others say with respect to breastfeeding. It is the perfect food for your little one. I congratulate you for hanging in there with the breastfeeding; putting your child first deserves a medal. You will know when the time is right to start your child on a drinking cup and regular milk.
I am sure that your child's pediatrician would voice his/her concern if there was a problem.
You continue to have this special time with your child; before you know it he/she will be asking for the car keys. They grow up so fast.

if you ask a question seeking for advice, personal opinion, thoughts or whatever people are gonna come up with many things. It's just the way YA works, people can say whatever they want. If you ask for opinions or advice they will give you what they think is right. People who post questions must be ready for all kinds of answers.

Oh yes!!! What I love even better. Is when you go to the doctor for your post partum check up and they give you a breastfeeding success kit, in it is formula. How is that success in breastfeeding? If it works for you keep at it. You'll know when your ready to stop.

Yes, but I got it from the time my babies were born, I come from a very anti breastfeeding family, that generation that gave birth in the 60's through early 80's. all I heard was "just give her a bottle, your starving her, shes still hungry" lalalala and on and on.

I hate it when women who know instinctively what is best for their child and themselves pay attention to what everyone else thinks. La Leche League is a good resource for breastfeeding, ask the experts.

Yes, that's inconsiderate & inexcusable.

I agree, if you can't provide insight to what the asker is asking, move along to another question.
There's unfortunetly too many people looking to spark drama or pushing their unsolicited opinions rather than trying to help.
